Alan Ritchson and Joe Cole Join Forces in Gritty Navy SEAL Thriller
Alan Ritchson and Joe Cole team up for a gripping Navy SEAL action film inspired by real events in Vietnam, promising high-stakes drama and acts of courage.
Alan Ritchson, best known for his role in Reacher, is set to bring his trademark presence to a new action-packed project. The actor is front and centre in an untitled Navy SEAL thriller from Amazon MGM Studios, which draws on a remarkable true story from the closing days of the Vietnam War. Joe Cole, familiar to many from Peaky Blinders, is also on board, adding his own brand of intensity to the cast.
Ritchson and Cole are no strangers to action, but this film marks a significant moment for both. Cole, who’s made his mark in everything from Green Room to Gangs of London, steps into one of his most high-profile roles yet. The film reunites Ritchson with director Patrick Hughes, following their work together on the upcoming sci-fi action flick War Machine. With Sylvester Stallone among the producers, the project has plenty of star power behind the scenes as well.
True Grit: A Vietnam War Story
The story centres on Navy SEAL Mike Thornton, played by Ritchson, who leads a desperate effort to save his team after five men are stranded behind enemy lines in North Vietnam. Facing overwhelming odds, they’re up against a force of 150 soldiers and must battle through relentless gunfire before making a risky escape to the South China Sea. The stakes are high, with Thornton swimming for hours through dangerous waters, dragging both a wounded lieutenant and another mate to safety. His actions would later earn him the Congressional Medal of Honour.
“Based on an extraordinary true story from the final days of the Vietnam War, the film follows Navy SEAL Mike Thornton (Ritchson) as he leads a desperate last stand after five men are trapped behind enemy lines in North Vietnam. Outnumbered by an army of 150 soldiers, they fight through relentless enemy fire before making a harrowing retreat into the South China Sea. With both a gravely wounded lieutenant and fellow soldier tied to him, Thornton swims for hours through hostile waters to reach safety, an act of valor that earned him the Congressional Medal of Honor.”
Busy Schedules for Both Stars
Joe Cole isn’t slowing down, with several other projects on the go. He’s set to work again with Amazon MGM Studios on another Navy-themed action film, Subversion, starring Chris Hemsworth as a naval commander caught in a dangerous blackmail plot. Cole will also take the lead in the action thriller He Bled Neon and is set to appear in the biographical drama The Queen of Fashion.
Ritchson, meanwhile, is keeping busy with a string of action roles. He’ll return as Jack Reacher for a fourth season and a spin-off focused on Frances Neagley. He’s also teaming up with Arnold Schwarzenegger for the Christmas action comedy The Man with the Bag, taking on a mostly silent role in Motor City, leading the thriller Runner, and facing off against aliens in War Machine.
Anticipation Builds for the Upcoming Release
With a cast and crew stacked with talent, this Navy SEAL thriller is shaping up to be a must-watch for fans of action and true stories alike. The combination of Ritchson’s physicality and Cole’s dramatic chops, set against the backdrop of a real-life tale of courage, promises a gripping experience for punters keen on high-stakes drama.
