With Evil Dead Burn still months from release, New Line Cinema and Sony Pictures have already given the go-ahead for another instalment, with Francis Galluppi at the helm and a cast packed with familiar faces.

There’s still half a year to go before Evil Dead Burn lands in Aussie cinemas, but that hasn’t stopped New Line Cinema and Sony Pictures from charging ahead with yet another entry in the cult horror series. According to Deadline, LA-based director Francis Galluppi has been chosen to both write and direct the fresh instalment, following the box office success of Lee Cronin’s Evil Dead Rise, which raked in a tidy $147 million worldwide back in 2023.

Fans of the genre will spot a few familiar faces in the cast list. Charlotte Hope, known for her role in The Nun, is set to star alongside Ella Newton from Dangerous Animals and Zach Gilford, who’s worked with Mike Flanagan on several projects. The supporting cast is rounded out by Jessica McNamee (Mortal Kombat), Josh Helman (Mad Max: Fury Road), Ella Oliphant, and Elizabeth Cullen (The Last Anniversary).

Production Team and Franchise Legacy

Lee Cronin, who directed the previous film, is on board as a producer, joined by Rob Tapert, Romel Adam, Jose Cañas, Sam Raimi, and Bruce Campbell. Campbell, of course, is the bloke who made Ash Williams a horror icon. At this stage, the plot for the new film is being kept under wraps, but it’s a fair bet it’ll involve a group of unlucky souls stumbling across a version of the Necronomicon, accidentally letting loose a horde of Kandarian demons, and having to deal with a bunch of bloodthirsty Deadites.

While the details are still hush-hush, the creative team’s involvement has fans keen to see what’s next for the franchise. The Evil Dead series has always been known for its over-the-top gore, dark humour, and relentless pace, and punters are expecting more of the same with this new chapter.

What’s Next for Evil Dead Fans

In the meantime, horror enthusiasts can look forward to Sébastien Vaniček’s Evil Dead Burn, which is set to hit screens on July 24. The cast for Burn includes Souheila Yacoub, Luciane Buchanan, Tandi Wright, George Pullar, and Hunter Doohan, who’s known for his role in Wednesday.

Vaniček has made it clear that he’s not holding back with his take on the franchise.

“I told the studio that I wanted to make a nasty film, a film that hurts, from which you come away tested,”

he said of his upcoming release.

“I’m going to put all the horror I have inside, it will be cathartic, and if I haven’t ruined my career and I can continue to make films behind it, I will move on to something other than horror!”

With two Evil Dead films on the horizon and a line-up of both new and returning talent, it looks like fans of the franchise have plenty to be excited about in the coming year.
