Kevin Feige has sharpened the picture on Avengers: Secret Wars, teasing the MCU’s path forward and pointing to what the comics’ Secret Wars events actually show.

There’s been a fresh bit of news on Avengers: Secret Wars, courtesy of Kevin Feige himself. If, like me, you’re tired of Marvel’s cloak-and-dagger nonsense and just want some straight answers on where this multiverse circus is heading, this update is actually worth your attention.

Feige on the Big Picture

Feige’s been dropping hints about what Marvel has planned for Secret Wars, and he’s clearly not one for understatement. Speaking about the Marvel Premier Collection of Secret Wars comics, he pointed to the whole thing as basically a blueprint for the MCU’s next phase. In the comics, you’ve got multiverses colliding, total chaos, everything reset and rebuilt—so no lack of drama there. The point, apparently, is to take the shreds of the old universe and weave them into something new that’s actually fit for the times.

Here’s Feige spelling out how all this comic book madness translates to his plans for the films:

We do the same thing in the Marvel Cinematic Universe… That cycle continues as we head toward the Marvel Cinematic Universe's own version of Secret Wars. Like Loki gathering up stray branches of the timeline at the end of all things, we’ll pick up the threads of Hickman and Ribic’s run and all those who came before and weave a new story inspired by the vast tapestry of our comics and films.

The man also threw in a little mystery just to keep everyone guessing—he promised that the studio will be throwing in all sorts of characters that’ll catch fans off guard, not that Marvel’s ever been shy about wild cameos or deep-cut references.

Plot, Casting, and Release

Any actual plot details? No, of course not—everything’s still locked down tighter than Tony Stark’s wallet. What’s likely, going by updates from Comicbookmovie, is we’ll see massive inspiration from Jonathan Hickman and Esad Ribic’s run of the Secret Wars comics. In that story, the multiverse goes up in flames, and Doctor Doom winds up as the so-called ‘God Emperor’ running what’s left as Battleworld. But, before you get too carried away, there’s absolutely no confirmation that the film will follow this arc to the letter.

Now, on the casting side—a real surprise. Robert Downey Jr. isn’t back as Iron Man. He’s back as Doctor Doom. I don’t know who cooked that one up, but it’s certainly a choice. As far as direction goes, it’ll be Anthony and Joe Russo steering the ship, so at least there’s some proven talent running things. The date you want to circle is 17 December 2027, so there’s a bit of a wait if you’re eager for world-ending spectacle.
