Mahershala Ali’s long-awaited Blade film faces fresh uncertainty, with new whispers suggesting Marvel may have scrapped the solo project. Fans are fired up, but is there still hope for the Daywalker?

For years, punters have been hanging out for Mahershala Ali to headline his own Blade film, but the latest word is that it might not be happening after all. On a recent episode of THE HOT MIC, Jeff Sneider dropped a bombshell while chatting with John Rocha, saying:

Blade is dead. It’s a rumour. I’m hearing Blade is dead and that it is a Midnight Sons film. He will not be introduced in a solo film; he will be introduced in Midnight Sons.

Sneider reckons Ali’s age could be a sticking point, since the actor’s already in his early 50s, while the character Eric Brooks is meant to look a fair bit younger. He added:

I think it’s just gotten to the point where it’s just like, ‘Yeah, I don’t think you’re going to get your own film. Like, we can’t have a 60-year-old Mahershala Ali renting new comic book films. So, I think it’s going to be Midnight Sons.

Just last week, there was a bit of buzz that Marvel might be eyeing Jordan Peele to direct a mystery project in the MCU. Insider Daniel Richtman was behind that rumour, but there’s been no official confirmation about what the project could be. Given Peele’s knack for horror with a social edge, some thought he’d be a good fit for Blade or even X-Men. But with these new whispers about Ali’s solo outing being axed, that seems less likely now.

Fans Vent Frustration Over Blade’s Uncertain Fate

Unsurprisingly, the latest talk about Blade has left fans far from impressed. Social media’s been flooded with complaints, with many saying Marvel keeps pulling the plug on the films people are actually keen to see. Here’s a taste of what’s being said:

Imagine studios being this stupid

A Blade film is not this difficult to pull off and the fans want it.

This becomes increasingly true as the days pass. I was excited to watch a new Blade film.

HOLY FUCK

Stop cancelling all the films we actually want

Doesn't seem like studios want to make solo films anymore other than The Batman. The new Superman film packed in a bunch of other heroes. Now blade needs to be with the midnight sons. Everything is just taking the guardians of the galaxy script and rehashing it

A blade film is literally the simplest shit possible.

Judging by these reactions, Marvel’s not winning any popularity contests if the solo Blade project really is off the table. Still, some are wondering if a Midnight Sons film could be a decent way to introduce Ali’s take on Eric Brooks to the MCU.

What a Midnight Sons Pivot Could Mean

It’s a real letdown for those who’ve been waiting ages for this project, especially with Ali’s Eric Brooks now possibly only showing up in a team-up flick. It’s a bit of a missed opportunity, considering Ali’s talent and the potential for a cracking action film built around him.

On the other hand, shifting focus to Midnight Sons might be the right move for Marvel at the moment. A team film could bring back characters fans haven’t seen in yonks, while also giving Ali’s Brooks a proper launchpad. With Marvel juggling so many characters and storylines, a group outing might be less overwhelming for viewers than a stack of solo films and series.

If Midnight Sons ends up being a hit, it could even spark enough interest to get Blade back on track for a standalone adventure down the line.
