Camila Morrone Is Joining Miami Vice, and the Cast Is Getting Genuinely Stacked
Universal's Miami Vice '85 added Camila Morrone this week, opposite Michael B. Jordan and Austin Butler as Rico Tubbs and Sonny Crockett.
Her role is being kept quiet, but the reporting makes the shape clear: Deadline says the offer came right after final chemistry tests with Butler over the weekend, which suggests she's playing opposite him rather than beside him.
The ensemble so far
Jordan and Butler lead. Alden Ehrenreich and Whitney Peak joined recently, with Peak reportedly playing Tubbs' love interest. Joseph Kosinski directs from a Dan Gilroy screenplay, based on characters created by Anthony Yerkovich for the series he executive produced with Michael Mann.
Kosinski is coming off F1 and Top Gun: Maverick, so this will look expensive and move fast.
Morrone's run
She broke out in Daisy Jones & The Six and got an Emmy nomination for it. Then the second season of The Night Manager opposite Tom Hiddleston. Then strong notices for Netflix's Something Very Bad Is Going to Happen this spring. She's also leading a Netflix adaptation of The Age of Innocence.
Four high-profile jobs in eighteen months and now an eighties crime blockbuster. This is what a career inflection point looks like in real time.
Filming starts later this year. Universal has the film dated for May 19, 2028, which is a long time to wait for pastel suits and speedboats.
