Chris Pratt’s action-packed sci-fi flick is set to leave Prime Video and land on Peacock in 2026, with a sequel already in the works. Find out what’s next for this divisive hit.

Chris McKay, best known for The Lego Batman Movie, made his live-action debut with a big-budget sci-fi adventure starring Chris Pratt. In this film, Pratt plays Dan Forester, a bloke who’s swapped the classroom for the battlefield, called up to fight a war that stretches across time. He’s joined by Yvonne Strahovski, J.K. Simmons, Betty Gilpin, Sam Richardson, Edwin Hodge, Jasmine Mathews, Ryan Kiera Armstrong, and Keith Powers. The story kicks off when a group of time travellers from 2051 show up, asking for help from today’s soldiers and everyday punters to take on a deadly alien threat that could wipe out humanity. Dan teams up with a sharp scientist and his estranged dad, hoping to give the planet a fighting chance.

Originally, this action-packed yarn was an Amazon Studios project, premiering on Prime Video. But from 1 January 2026, it’ll be making the jump to Peacock, giving locals a fresh way to catch the film. Critics were split down the middle, with a 51% score on Rotten Tomatoes, but audiences were a bit more generous, handing it a 76%. Despite a hefty $200 million budget and plans for a big-screen release through Paramount, the pandemic threw a spanner in the works, and it ended up as a streaming hit, racking up 2.41 million households in its first week.

Streaming Shift and Audience Reaction

The move to Peacock marks a new chapter for the film, which has already built a solid following since its 2021 release. The switch gives punters another option to watch the action unfold, especially those who missed it the first time round or fancy a rewatch. The film’s blend of time travel, alien battles, and family drama struck a chord with many, even if some critics weren’t entirely sold.

Chris Pratt’s performance, mixing dry humour with a bit of heart, was singled out as a highlight. The film’s mix of action and sci-fi elements, along with a dash of Aussie talent in the cast, helped it stand out in a crowded streaming landscape. The 138-minute runtime and PG-13 rating made it accessible for a broad audience, from teens to adults keen on a bit of escapism.

Sequel in the Works

With the first film’s success, it’s no surprise a follow-up is on the cards. Amazon is keen to turn this into a full-blown franchise, with Chris Pratt front and centre. Director Chris McKay has confirmed the sequel is moving ahead, saying it’s

“happening relatively soon”

and hinting that Pratt’s mix of emotion and humour will be a key ingredient once again. While details are still under wraps, fans are already speculating about where the story might go next.

The original film, penned by Zach Dean and produced by a team including David S. Goyer, Jules Daly, Dana Goldberg, David Ellison, Don Granger, and Adam Kolbrenner, set the stage for a series that could keep audiences hooked for years to come. With the streaming landscape always shifting, the move to Peacock could bring the story to a whole new crowd.
