Chris Pratt shares what Star-Lord’s been up to since leaving the Guardians, hints at his hopes for a return, and reveals which superhero he’d love to play next.

Chris Pratt, the bloke behind Star-Lord in the Guardians of the Galaxy films, has finally let slip what his character’s been doing since stepping away from the action. After the events of the last Guardians flick, Peter Quill decided to hang up his boots and head back to Earth, choosing family over more cosmic chaos. Pratt reckons this is exactly where Star-Lord would be now—enjoying some downtime and reconnecting with his roots.

While out promoting his new sci-fi thriller, Mercy, Pratt was asked about his most memorable roles, including Owen Grady from Jurassic World and Mario from the animated Super Mario Bros. film. Of course, Star-Lord came up, and Pratt was quick to admit there’s no immediate plan for him to return to the Marvel universe. Still, he’s keen to keep the door open for a comeback, especially since the films promised fans that Star-Lord would be back one day.

Star-Lord’s Earthly Adventures

When pressed on what Peter Quill might be up to these days, Pratt didn’t hold back.

“Probably denying the fact that he was responsible for the death of Iron Man, while simultaneously trying to convince people that he was a superhero at some point. Probably catching up on the music. From '70s pop all the way until he came back, there's a lot of music to catch up on.”

It’s a classic bit of self-deprecating humour, and it fits the character to a tee. Quill’s always been a bit of a dag, and the idea of him spinning old records and telling tall tales to his family is spot on.

Pratt also mentioned he’d love to make good on the promise that Star-Lord would return, saying,

“We made a promise with Guardians of the Galaxy that Star-Lord would return – I think I'd really like to make good on that promise. That would be awesome.”

For now, though, he’s content to let the character have a breather.

Superhero Dreams and New Roles

Asked if there’s another superhero he’d fancy playing, Pratt didn’t hesitate. His pick? The Punisher.

“He was my favourite comic book hero growing up, so I've always loved Punisher…He was so good. Maybe Punisher 2099.”

While Jon Bernthal currently holds the role, Pratt pointed out he’s already had a crack at a similar character with James Reece in The Terminal List, his action series on Prime Video. It’s clear he’s got a soft spot for tough, no-nonsense types.

Will Star-Lord Return for Avengers: Doomsday?

As for whether Star-Lord will pop up in the much-hyped Avengers: Doomsday, set to hit cinemas in December 2026, there’s nothing locked in. The film is shaping up to be Marvel’s biggest ensemble yet, with plenty of familiar faces like Thor and Ant-Man making a comeback. But the original Guardians crew aren’t on the guest list, and there’s talk they might be replaced by the new Fantastic Four.

Still, with a film this big, you never know who might show up for a quick cameo. Avengers: Doomsday is expected to bring together a heap of old and new characters, so there’s always a chance Star-Lord could make a surprise appearance, even if it’s just for a moment. The Russo brothers are known for pulling out all the stops, so punters will just have to wait and see if Quill gets another shot at saving the day—or at least spinning a few more yarns.
