Dakota Johnson explains her 'Verity' faint — and ending up in Josh Hartnett’s arms
Dakota Johnson explains why she suddenly fainted into Josh Hartnett’s arms while filming Verity — and the cause isn’t what you’d assume.
In the middle of a heavy scene on Verity, Dakota Johnson says she suddenly blacked out and fell into co-star Josh Hartnett’s arms — and he caught her before she hit the floor. She told the story on Late Night with Seth Meyers, adding that the moment blindsided the crew because the cameras were rolling on a very serious exchange.
“I, yeah, I fainted into Josh Hartnett’s arms....Turns out I had a kidney infection, but so I just like passed out,”
Johnson said that when she came to, her first instinct was to keep going. The set had other ideas: “Uh, you’re going to the hospital,” she recalled being told. Tests revealed the kidney infection was the culprit, and production paused so she could get checked out.
The on-set scare surfaces as Verity, a psychological thriller with Hartnett among Johnson’s scene partners, hits theaters on October 2. Johnson described the fainting spell as one of the shoot’s strangest unscripted moments — memorable precisely because it unfolded during an otherwise tightly controlled, emotionally fraught take.
Her week doesn’t slow down. Johnson returns to Saturday Night Live for her third time as host the night after the film opens, stepping back into Studio 8H with Verity fresh in theaters. SNL airs Saturday at 11:30 p.m. ET/8:30 p.m. PT on NBC and streams live on Peacock.
