Todd Howard and Aaron Moten tease Fallout's next season, sharing behind-the-scenes details and dropping hints about possible alien appearances.

Fallout’s first outing on the small screen left punters gobsmacked with its attention to detail, right down to the working Pip-Boys the cast got to muck about with. Now, if you take Bethesda’s Todd Howard at his word, the next season is set to raise the bar even higher. One of the show’s stars might’ve even let slip a cheeky clue about a rather out-there Easter egg.

Building the Wasteland: Set Details That Stun

When quizzed about his favourite bit of set design, Howard didn’t hesitate.

“For me, it’s the store in Freeside,”

he said, nodding to the bustling settlement familiar to anyone who’s wandered through New Vegas.

“You walk in the store and they’re selling all the little doodads and ammo and Stimpaks. They just built everything, I was browsing the store for real. Like, wow: You just built all of this stuff because it might be in frame.”

The level of detail is something you’d expect from a mob of fans, not a film crew on a tight schedule.

Aaron Moten, who’s back as Maximus in the Prime Video series, was equally impressed.

“One of the biggest wow moments was the warehouse the Brotherhood gets into and the things that were inside there. At one point, I was going round the set, pulling things out and being like, ‘Can we get this on camera?’ It was so amazing. The detail, it’s remarkable – the alien in the fridge, that one’s a good one.”

That last bit got a quick interjection from Howard:

“No spoilers.”

Sounds like Moten might’ve let the cat out of the bag about a cosmic surprise in the next season.

Aliens in the Wasteland?

Anyone who’s spent time in the Fallout universe knows about the Zetans – those mysterious extraterrestrials who’ve popped up in several games, most memorably in Fallout 3’s Mothership Zeta add-on. While it’s unlikely we’ll see little green blokes having a yarn with the Ghoul or joining the Brotherhood, Howard’s comments suggest the show is packed with nods and oddities for eagle-eyed fans to spot.

Rather than going all-in on the sci-fi, it looks like the team is keen to keep things subtle, slipping in references and hidden gems that’ll have long-time fans grinning and newcomers scratching their heads. Every frame seems to be loaded with something for the keen observer.

What’s Next for Fallout Fans?

The much-anticipated second season is set to hit Prime Video on 17 December. If you’re keen to keep up, there’s plenty to look forward to, with a timeline and release schedule already out for those who like to plan ahead. The show’s creators seem determined to keep the surprises coming, both for die-hard fans and those just discovering the wasteland for the first time.

So, what’s the telly show you’re most looking forward to in 2026?
