Finn Wolfhard Teases More Richie Tozier in Welcome to Derry
Finn Wolfhard opens up about his surprise appearance as Richie Tozier in the Welcome to Derry season 1 finale and hints there could be more to come for his character.
Richie Tozier’s unexpected appearance in the final episode of Welcome to Derry’s first season has left fans buzzing, and Finn Wolfhard has now hinted that this might not be the last we see of the character. In the closing moments, Pennywise confronts Marge Truman—who is later revealed as Maggie Tozier—and tells her she’ll have a son named Richie. The implication is that Richie’s name comes from Rich Santos, whose brave actions at The Black Spot saved Marge. Pennywise then dramatically produces Richie’s missing poster, the same one seen in Neibolt Street in the first It film, featuring Wolfhard’s face.
Speaking in a recent interview, Wolfhard revealed he was aware of his cameo well before filming began.
‘I knew that years ago, actually. When they first started thinking about that show, it was probably 2021,’
he shared.
‘Barbara and Andy Muschietti both told me, “You’re involved.” Yeah, I’m connected. I think there’s something else that will come up eventually that I’m excited for people to see.’
What’s Next for Richie Tozier?
Exactly what’s in store for Richie remains a mystery. With Pennywise now aware of the details surrounding his own demise, there’s speculation he might go after more members of the Truman or Tozier families in future seasons. The show is planned as a three-season run, but the next two instalments haven’t been officially given the green light yet. Whether Wolfhard will return in person or if his character will be referenced in other ways is still up in the air.
Fans are left wondering if the connection between Richie and the events in Derry will deepen, especially with the groundwork laid in the finale. The creative team seems to have more up their sleeve, and Wolfhard’s comments suggest he’s keen to be part of whatever comes next.
Wolfhard’s Other Projects and What’s Ahead
Outside of the Derry universe, Wolfhard has just wrapped up filming the much-anticipated fifth season of Stranger Things, which ended on an emotional note.
