Five Nights at Freddy's 2: Release Date, Cast, and Chilling New Twists
Blumhouse is keeping Five Nights at Freddy's 2 tightly under wraps, with Josh Hutcherson teasing more animatronics, extra scares, and a top-secret production. The horror sequel lands in cinemas on December 5.
Blumhouse is taking a very different approach with the much-anticipated follow-up to the hit video game adaptation, Five Nights at Freddy's 2. This time around, the production is shrouded in secrecy, with lead actor Josh Hutcherson describing the level of confidentiality as,
"top secret level 1 million"
. According to Hutcherson, the studio is going all out to keep details under lock and key, even when it comes to releasing new promos or posters.
"Every time there's like, a new trailer or a new poster coming out, the emails that they send, of the intents of, like, do not let anyone see this before this time,"
he shared, adding that the team is taking things very seriously.
Set a year after Mike and his younger sister Abby managed to escape the haunted pizzeria, the sequel finds the pair unexpectedly drawn back into the world of menacing animatronics. While the plot is being kept close to the chest, fans can expect a few curveballs along the way.
More Animatronics, More Frights
Hutcherson hints that the new film dials everything up a notch.
"Stuff goes down. It's crazy,"
he says.
"Everything that really worked in the first movie, we took that and just cranked it way up. We have like, double the amount of animatronics. The movie's way scarier, a lot more jump scares. It's dark. You get into the psychological shit of the characters. It's great."
The sequel promises a bigger, bolder experience, with a focus on psychological tension and a heap more surprises for punters who thought they’d seen it all the first time.
One of the standout upgrades is the animatronics themselves. This time, both withered and Toy versions of the machines are set to appear, and it sounds like a few new faces from the games will be making their debut. Hutcherson is especially impressed by the technical wizardry behind the creatures, noting,
"The animatronics are amazing. They're even more terrifying the first one, that's for sure. There's one animatronic that needs I think nine people just to operate because there's cables and rods and remotes and there's two heads. What [Jim] Henson does with these creatures is next level. It's incredible."
Animatronics on the Loose
The official trailer for the sequel hints that some of the animatronics might be breaking out into the real world this time. When asked about this twist, director Emma Tammi teased,
"They're out for blood… There's, there's some new elements in the fold. So I think, you know, as with any Five Nights at Freddy's game, you know, not to get too close. You know, that's probably no good if you're face-to-face with an animatronic and you want to get the heck out of there. But, I think the way in which they're operating is, you know, an exciting twist in the sequel compared to the first one."
Five Nights at Freddy's 2 is set to hit Aussie cinemas on December 5. For those keen on more, there’s always a fresh list of top video game films and upcoming horror flicks to keep an eye on.
