The Golden Globes 2026 nominations have just been announced at a lively event in Los Angeles, with Marlon Wayans and Skye P Marshall taking the reins as hosts. The ceremony, which kicked off at 1:15pm GMT (5:15am in LA), drew plenty of attention from the film and television industry, as punters and insiders alike tuned in to see which titles would set the pace for this year’s awards season. For many, these nominations are a solid pointer for what’s to come at the Oscars.
Leading the pack this year is One Battle After Another, racking up an impressive nine nods. It’s up for ‘Best Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy’, and Leonardo DiCaprio is in the running for ‘Best Leading Performance by a Male Actor in a Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy’. Other strong contenders include Sentimental Value with eight nominations, Sinners with seven, and Hamnet with six.
Film Favourites and Standout Performances
In the drama category, the films vying for top honours are Frankenstein, Hamnet, It Was Just An Accident, The Secret Agent, Sentimental Value, and Sinners. For musical or comedy, the nominees are Blue Moon, Bugonia, Marty Supreme, No Other Choice, Nouvelle Vague, and One Battle After Another.
Animated features haven’t been left out, with Arco, Demon Slayer: Kimetsu No Yaiba Infinity Castle, Elio, KPop Demon Hunters, Little Amelie or the Character of Rain, and Zootopia 2 all in the mix. The non-English language film category features entries from France, South Korea, Brazil, Norway, Spain, and Tunisia.
Spotlight on Acting and Directing
Among the acting nominees, Jessie Buckley (Hamnet), Jennifer Lawrence (Die My Love), and Julia Roberts (After The Hunt) are up for best female performance in a drama. On the male side, Joe Edgerton (Train Dreams), Oscar Isaac (Frankenstein), and Dwayne Johnson (The Smashing Machine) are in the running.
For musical or comedy, Rose Byrne (If I Had Legs I’d Kick You), Cynthia Erivo (Wicked: For Good), and Emma Stone (Bugonia) are among the female nominees, while Timothée Chalamet (Marty Supreme), George Clooney (Jay Kelly), and Leonardo DiCaprio (One Battle After Another) are up for best male performance.
Supporting roles see Emily Blunt, Elle Fanning, Ariana Grande, and Teyana Taylor among the women, while Benicio del Toro, Jacob Elordi, Paul Mescal, and Sean Penn are recognised for the blokes. Directing nods go to Paul Thomas Anderson, Ryan Coogler, Guillermo del Toro, Jafar Panahi, Joachim Trier, and Chloe Zhao.
Television’s Top Contenders
On the telly front, Adolescence leads with five nominations, including a double up in the supporting actor category for Owen Cooper and Ashley Walters. The Diplomat, The Pitt, Pluribus, Severance, Slow Horses, and The White Lotus are all up for best drama series. For musical or comedy, the likes of Abbott Elementary, The Bear, Hacks, Nobody Wants This, Only Murders in the Building, and The Studio are in the running.
Limited series and TV films are represented by Adolescence, All Her Fault, The Beast in Me, Black Mirror, Dying for Sex, and The Girlfriend. Notable acting nominees include Kathy Bates, Britt Lower, Helen Mirren, Bella Ramsey, Keri Russell, and Rhea Seehorn for drama, and Kristen Bell, Ayo Edebiri, Selena Gomez, Natasha Lyonne, Jenna Ortega, and Jean Smart for musical or comedy.
Special Categories and Ceremony Details
Other categories include best original score, with Alexander DuBois, Ludwig Goransson, Jonny Greenwood, Kangding Ray, Max Richter, and Hans Zimmer all up for the gong. Original song nominees feature tracks from Avatar: Fire and Ash, KPop Demon Hunters, Sinners, Wicked: For Good, and Train Dreams.
The awards night is set for 11 January 2026, with comedian Nikki Glaser returning as host for the second year running. She’s also up for the ‘Stand Up Comedy on Television’ award. The event will bring together all the nominees from both film and television, as they wait to see who’ll take home the coveted trophies.
