Gwyneth Paltrow’s recent remarks about Timothée Chalamet have raised eyebrows, but there’s more to her words than meets the eye. Find out what she really thinks of her Marty Supreme co-star.

Gwyneth Paltrow’s latest comments about her Marty Supreme co-star Timothée Chalamet have got plenty of people talking. At first glance, her words might sound a bit harsh, but there’s a twist to her meaning that’s worth a closer look. Chatting with Jacob Elordi, who’s known for Frankenstein, Paltrow shared what stood out to her about Chalamet’s performance.

Unfiltered Praise for Chalamet’s Performance

Paltrow admitted she wasn’t all that familiar with Chalamet’s previous work, so she did a bit of research before filming. She was genuinely impressed by his approach to playing a character with questionable morals. In her words:

It was great. I wasn’t so familiar with his work either, so I did a little bit of a deep dive. He absolutely blew me away. The bravery around playing somebody with no moral centre. Most times when an actor plays someone unlikeable, you can see them couching [it] — but he just drives through it. He’s just a d*ck.

Elordi also had plenty of good things to say about Chalamet, especially when it came to the film’s final moments. Paltrow went on to discuss what it was like working alongside Chalamet, who somehow managed to juggle filming Marty Supreme, Dune: Part Two, and a Bob Dylan biopic all at once.

On-Set Dynamics and Professionalism

In a recent interview, Paltrow opened up about returning to a leading role for the first time in over a decade. Sharing scenes with Chalamet meant building a level of trust and intensity she hadn’t experienced in a while. The film, directed by Josh Safdie, features a cast including Odessa A’zion, Kevin O’Leary, and Tyler Okonma, and is set for release on 25 December 2025. Early reviews have been glowing, with a 97% critic score and a runtime of two and a half hours.

Paltrow and Chalamet share several intimate scenes in the film, and for the first time, she worked with an intimacy coordinator. Both actors decided to take a more natural approach, asking the coordinator to step back. Paltrow, poking fun at their age difference, joked, “I’m 109. You’re 14,” but was quick to highlight Chalamet’s dedication and skill. She made it clear she sees him as more than just a young star—he’s a true professional who takes his craft seriously.

Chalamet’s Dedication Behind the Scenes

Chalamet’s preparation for the role went well beyond the usual. He started practising table tennis years before filming even began, after a chance meeting with Safdie at a party sparked the idea for the film. He set up tables wherever he could—at home, on other film sets—and worked with local coaches to hone his skills, all while keeping it under wraps.

This commitment paid off, allowing Safdie to shoot long, uninterrupted takes that showcased Chalamet’s real abilities, without needing a double. With this level of dedication, some reckon he’s in with a shot at an Oscar, though many are waiting to see the film before making any big calls.

Marty Supreme is due to hit cinemas across the US on Christmas Day, 2025.
