Who truly stood out in the Order of the Phoenix? Discover how each member stacks up, from the least to the most powerful, in this fresh look at Harry Potter’s bravest fighters.

When darkness swept through the wizarding world, it was the Order of the Phoenix who put their hands up to take on the fight. This secret group, first brought together by Albus Dumbledore, was made up of witches and wizards from all walks of life, each with their own strengths and flaws. Their mission? To push back against Voldemort and his followers, no matter the cost.

Early Sacrifices and Unsung Heroes

Peter Pettigrew sits at the bottom of the list, not just for his lack of magical ability, but for his betrayal. His actions led to the deaths of James and Lily Potter, and he ultimately met his end at the hands of the very evil he served. Hagrid, while beloved for his loyalty and sheer physical strength, never really shone in magical duels, mostly due to his broken wand and limited spellwork. The Prewett twins, Gideon and Fabian, fought bravely but were outnumbered and killed in the first war, remembered more for their courage than their magical prowess.

Alice and Frank Longbottom, both skilled Aurors, were tragically tortured into insanity, cutting their contributions short. James and Lily Potter, though talented, also lost their lives early on, with Lily’s sacrifice leaving a lasting protective magic. Elphias Doge, a loyal friend to Dumbledore, played more of a supportive role, relying on wisdom rather than combat skills.

Bravery, Loyalty, and Loss

Sirius Black, despite his popularity, spent much of his life imprisoned and was unable to make a significant impact during the wars. Fred and George Weasley brought creativity and spirit to the Order, but Fred’s life was cut short during the Battle of Hogwarts, while George endured and continued the fight. Bill Weasley, known for his curse-breaking skills, survived a werewolf attack and contributed both in battle and behind the scenes.

Remus Lupin, a standout Defence Against the Dark Arts teacher, balanced intelligence and restraint, though his self-doubt sometimes held him back. Nymphadora Tonks, both an Auror and a Metamorphmagus, fought valiantly until her death, leaving behind a son. Arthur Weasley’s strength came from his unwavering loyalty and heart, surviving attacks and personal loss to help rebuild the wizarding world after the war.

Strategists and Powerhouses

Ron Weasley, while not the most powerful spellcaster, showed heaps of courage and loyalty, supporting his friends through thick and thin. Alastor Moody, the legendary Auror, was a tough fighter but met his end before the final battle. Molly Weasley surprised everyone with her fierce defence of her family, taking down one of Voldemort’s most dangerous followers in the heat of battle.

Severus Snape, perhaps the most complex member, worked as a double agent, risking everything for the Order without ever seeking recognition. Hermione Granger’s quick thinking and knowledge saved the day on more than one occasion, while Harry Potter himself led the charge, facing his own mortality and ultimately defeating Voldemort.

The Top Tier: Leadership and Legendary Magic

Aberforth Dumbledore, though less in the spotlight than his brother, proved a formidable force when he returned to the fight, helping protect Hogwarts and its students. Kingsley Shacklebolt, calm and reliable, played a key role in major battles and later helped lead the wizarding world to recovery. Minerva McGonagall, with her discipline and fearlessness, stood as a pillar of strength, defending Hogwarts even in the darkest times.

At the very top is Albus Dumbledore himself. His unmatched power, wisdom, and leadership kept Voldemort at bay for years. Dumbledore’s willingness to sacrifice himself for the greater good set the standard for what true strength looks like in the wizarding world.
