James shuts down rumors: no concurrent 'Batman III' production with II
James Gunn cut through the chatter around The Batman Part III, confirming where it stands on entering production alongside Part II.
A stray “Batman III” image kicked off a fresh round of speculation this week that Warner Bros. would shoot The Batman Part III immediately after The Batman Part II. Fans quickly took the theory to James Gunn on Threads, asking if Matt Reeves was gearing up to film the second and third movies back-to-back.
Gunn didn’t leave much room for interpretation: he replied on Threads to shut it down, saying there are no plans to shoot a third film alongside the sequel.
Part III isn’t filming back-to-back with Part II.
It’s become something of a routine. Since stepping in to run DC Studios, Gunn has used his social feeds to knock down wayward rumors before they calcify, and this was another quick denial aimed at resetting expectations.
Where things stand
For now, the focus is squarely on The Batman Part II. Reeves has been developing the sequel as part of his standalone Gotham storyline, which sits outside the main DC Universe as a DC Elseworlds project. Robert Pattinson is expected to continue as Bruce Wayne in that lane, separate from Gunn’s larger DCU plans.
As for a third chapter, nothing’s official. Neither DC Studios nor Reeves has announced The Batman Part III.
