Kathryn Hahn is reportedly in talks to play Mother Gothel in Disney’s live-action Tangled, following her acclaimed witch role in Marvel’s Agatha. The cast for Rapunzel and Flynn Ryder is set, but the release date remains under wraps.

Disney’s upcoming live-action take on Tangled looks set to add a familiar face to its cast, with Kathryn Hahn reportedly negotiating to step into the shoes of the infamous Mother Gothel. Known for her turn as the crafty Agatha Harkness in Marvel’s Agatha All Along, Hahn is no stranger to playing a witch, and this new role would see her once again embracing a character with a magical bent. In this version, Mother Gothel is the woman who snatches Rapunzel from her cot and keeps her hidden away in a tower, all to harness the power of her enchanted hair, which glows and keeps Gothel young.

Disney hasn’t made any official announcements about the casting just yet. Still, Hahn’s previous performances suggest she’s more than capable of handling the villain’s iconic numbers, including ‘Mother Knows Best’ and the ‘Healing Incantation’. Her singing chops were already on display in Agatha All Along, so fans are keen to see how she’ll tackle Gothel’s musical moments if the deal goes through.

Fresh Faces for Rapunzel and Flynn Ryder

The news about Hahn’s potential involvement comes hot on the heels of the casting for the film’s leads. Teagan Croft, who many will recognise from her role as Raven in the Titans series, is set to play the long-locked princess. Joining her is Milo Manheim, a familiar face from Disney’s Zombies franchise, who’ll be taking on the part of the roguish Flynn Ryder. There’s no word yet on the finer details of the plot, but if Disney sticks to its recent pattern with live-action remakes like Lilo and Stitch and Snow White, punters can expect a story that closely follows the original animated film.

The 2010 animated classic centres on a young woman who’s spent her entire life locked away, convinced by her so-called mother that the outside world is too dangerous. Everything changes when a thief stumbles into her tower, setting off a journey that leads her to discover her true identity and the world beyond her window.

Behind the Scenes and What’s Next

There’s still no official word on when production will kick off, and the release date remains a mystery. The project will be helmed by Michael Gracey, best known for his work on The Greatest Showman and Better Man. The script is being penned by Jennifer Kaytin Robinson, who previously worked on Thor: Love and Thunder. With the main cast shaping up and a strong creative team in place, anticipation is building among Disney fans and musical lovers alike.

While everyone waits for more news, there’s plenty of speculation about how closely the new film will stick to the original’s tone and style. For now, locals can revisit their favourite Disney classics or keep an eye out for more updates as the Tangled remake moves closer to production.
