Marvel Studios’ Kevin Feige has spent the past year focusing solely on Avengers: Doomsday and Secret Wars, stepping back from other projects to give these blockbusters his full attention. What’s behind this shift?

Kevin Feige, the bloke steering the Marvel Cinematic Universe, has taken a sharp turn in his approach over the last year. Instead of juggling a stack of films and telly series, he’s zeroed in on just two: Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars. For a man who’s usually got his hands in every pie, it’s a noticeable change of pace.

According to industry chatter, Feige’s been stretched pretty thin in recent years, what with the explosion of Marvel’s TV output and even whispers about him dabbling in Star Wars.

“Feige has been so stretched thin with the TV shows and all these other things, and then maybe doing Star Wars, and all these things,”

one insider remarked.

“He has been solely focused on this and Secret Wars for, like, a year straight. Like, this has been it.”

Stepping Back from the Usual Hustle

Feige’s shift in focus has meant handing over the reins on a few other big-name projects. Jake Schreier was tapped as director for the next X-Men film last year, and Amy Pascal has been left to handle much of the Spider-Man business, including the upcoming Brand New Day.

“He put Jake Schreier on as the director last year of X-Men. Other than that, he's kind of let Amy Pascal handle a lot of the Spider-Man stuff,”

the source continued.

“So, just know that, people. He's in London all the time. If that dude has his mind set on just the one thing, like he used to do back in the day with Iron Man or Thor, they turn out good. It's when he has, like, eight other things, it gets a little tougher.”

While there’s still a heap of Marvel content on the horizon—Wonder Man and the second season of Daredevil: Born Again among them—Feige’s taken a more hands-off approach than punters are used to. The pressure’s on for Doomsday to deliver, especially after Marvel’s 2025 releases like Thunderbolts and The Fantastic Four: First Steps didn’t exactly set the box office alight. Fantastic Four, in particular, struggled to hold its ground on Disney Plus, getting bumped off the top spot by Freakier Friday after just a week.

All Eyes on the Next Avengers Blockbusters

With Avengers: Doomsday set to hit cinemas on 18 December 2026, and Secret Wars following a year later on 17 December 2027, Feige’s all-in approach is a throwback to his earlier days with the franchise. Back then, when he could give his full attention to a single project, the results spoke for themselves.

For now, Marvel fans can keep an eye on the rest of Phase 6, with plenty of other films and shows still in the pipeline. But it’s clear Feige’s betting big on these two Avengers outings, hoping to recapture the magic that made Endgame such a massive hit.
