Kim Cattrall nearly joined Coronation Street, but scheduling clashes got in the way. She’s still hopeful for another chance to appear on the legendary British soap.

There are plenty of stories in the world of film and telly about what might have been, but Kim Cattrall’s near-miss with Coronation Street stands out as a real what-if. While most punters know her best as Samantha Jones from Sex and the City, it turns out she was once offered a spot on the much-loved British soap. Imagine the buzz if she’d rocked up on the cobbles, even if not as her famous character.

Back in 2016, Cattrall revealed on Good Morning Britain that she’d been approached for a role but had to knock it back because her diary was chockers.

“Maybe they’ll ask me again,”

she said at the time, leaving the door open for a future cameo. It’s a bit of a stretch picturing the glitzy, outspoken star mixing it with the locals in Weatherfield, but she wouldn’t be the first big name to pop up on the show.

Big Names and Cameos on the Cobbles

Coronation Street has a long history of surprise appearances. Over the years, everyone from Prince Charles to Mel B has made a cameo. Sir Ian McKellen even did a ten-episode run as a dodgy writer back in 2005. Bob Dylan, a massive fan of the show, was offered a spot in 2022. So, Cattrall would be in good company if she ever made it onto the set.

Despite being so closely linked to New York, Cattrall actually hails from Mossley Hill in Liverpool, just a short drive from where the soap is set. There’s every chance she could have played a local, maybe even a Scouser, which would have been a nice nod to her roots. The show’s set in Manchester, but it’s had its fair share of Liverpudlian characters over the years.

What Could Have Been

Cattrall once joked about pulling pints at the Rovers Return, the show’s iconic pub. It’s easy to picture her as a bold, animal-print-wearing barmaid, stirring up drama and maybe even getting involved in a bit of scandal behind the bar. But, a decade on from that offer, there’s still no sign of her on the show.

She’s no stranger to British screens, having appeared in a handful of UK productions, including a BBC miniseries and a SkyArts short. She’s even popped up as herself on BBC Radio 4’s Women’s Hour. With her recent marriage to a Brit, there’s a fair chance she’ll be spending more time in the UK, so maybe the opportunity will come around again.
