Kristen Stewart’s Witty Batman Quip and Twilight Directing Hopes
Kristen Stewart opens up about her directorial debut, muses on a Twilight reboot, and delivers a sharp Batman joke about ex Robert Pattinson. Find out what she had to say in a recent chat.
During a recent Carversations chat with Suzie Riemer, Kristen Stewart discussed her first full-length directing project, The Chronology of Water. She also reaffirmed her interest in helming a fresh take on the Twilight saga. But the real standout moment came when Riemer floated the idea of Stewart stepping into the role of Robin in a Batman film.
Stewart, never one to miss a chance for a clever remark, shot back, “Maybe I should play Rob in Batman.” The wordplay was spot on, hinting at her ex and former Twilight co-star Robert Pattinson’s current gig as the Caped Crusader. Instead of Robin, she’d be Rob—in other words, Batman himself. Classic Stewart, taking the mickey with a well-timed pun.
Could Stewart and Pattinson Team Up in Batman?
James Gunn has already poured cold water on the talk of Robin popping up in The Batman: Part II, saying only a handful have seen the script and there’s no way for punters to know if Robin’s in the mix. Still, fans love a bit of speculation, and the idea of Stewart joining Pattinson on screen again is a tempting one.
Traditionally, Robin’s been a bloke, but there are versions where that’s not the case. Carrie Kelley, for example, is a well-known female Robin from the Elseworlds stories. If Matt Reeves ever fancied exploring that angle, Stewart as a female Robin would definitely get locals talking. The only snag is that Robin’s usually much younger than Batman, and Stewart and Pattinson are about the same age. Even so, it’s a fun thought, and there’s no reason Reeves couldn’t cast a young woman as Robin, even if Stewart’s not involved.
Stewart’s Directing Ambitions and a Twilight Reboot
In a chat with Entertainment Tonight, Stewart was asked if she’d be up for returning to Twilight as a director. She said she admired what the original directors did, but reckoned they didn’t quite grasp the full scale of what they were creating.
Imagine if we had like a huge budget and a bunch of love and support. I would love to readapt. Yeah, sure. I’ll do the remake. I’m doing it. I’m committed.
It was an off-the-cuff comment on the red carpet, but it’s interesting to imagine how Stewart might rework the characters she and Pattinson once played, along with the rest of the cast. Would she stick close to the original, or take things in a new direction?
