Ludacris Returns to Action in Limited Edition Comedy
Ludacris is set to headline Limited Edition, a new action comedy from the creative team behind Novocaine, with Universal Pictures and 87North backing the project.
Dan Berk and Robert Olsen, the pair who made waves with their 2025 action hit Novocaine, are gearing up for another big-screen outing. This time, they’re penning and directing a fresh action comedy, Limited Edition, with Ludacris taking the lead. The project is in the works at Universal Pictures and 87North, continuing a productive partnership that’s already delivered a string of high-octane, stunt-heavy flicks like Nobody, Violent Night, and The Fall Guy.
Details about the storyline are still under wraps, but the line-up of talent involved gives a fair idea of what’s in store for action fans. Kelly McCormick and David Leitch are producing through 87North’s ongoing deal with Universal, while Braden Aftergood, who recently joined 87North after co-founding Balboa Productions, is also on board. He’ll be overseeing the film from start to finish, alongside Jay Polidoro and Tony Ducret at Universal.
Star Power and Production Team
For Ludacris, Limited Edition marks his first action role since Fast X in 2023, and his first appearance on screen since his comedic stint in the Disney+ holiday film Dashing Through the Snow. Known for his chart-topping music and a string of blockbuster films, Ludacris has become a familiar face in the action world, especially thanks to his role as Tej Parker in the Fast & Furious series. He’s appeared in seven of those films, often paired with Tyrese Gibson’s Roman Pearce, and has also shown his range in dramas like Crash and Hustle & Flow.
This new project looks set to put him front and centre, giving him a chance to cement his reputation as a leading man in the action-comedy space.
Novocaine’s Impact and Genre Revival
Berk and Olsen’s previous outing, Novocaine, was widely regarded as one of the standout action films of 2025. The story followed Jack Quaid as Nathan "Nate" Caine, a mild-mannered bank executive with Congenital Insensitivity to Pain (CIP), a rare condition that means he can’t feel pain. This unusual trait comes in handy when he’s forced to rescue the woman he loves from a dangerous group. The film was praised for shaking up the action-comedy formula, poking fun at old tropes and adding a few new twists to keep things fresh for punters.
With Limited Edition, the creative team is clearly aiming to build on that momentum, bringing together a strong cast and crew to deliver another energetic, crowd-pleasing ride.
