Matt Damon has shared a less-than-encouraging update on his possible role in 'Ocean's 14', admitting he hasn't seen a script and nothing is set in stone. George Clooney remains upbeat, but Damon's comments suggest uncertainty.

Matt Damon, a familiar face in Hollywood thanks to roles in Oppenheimer and The Bourne Identity, has given fans a reality check about his involvement in the next Ocean’s film. While George Clooney has been talking up the prospects of Ocean’s 14 and hinted that most of the original crew will be back, Damon’s latest remarks suggest things aren’t quite so certain.

In a recent chat with Netflix, where he was promoting his new action flick The Rip, Damon was asked about the much-hyped return to the Ocean’s franchise. He admitted he’s still in the dark about whether he’ll be back as Linus Caldwell, the quick-fingered pickpocket who’s been part of Danny Ocean’s crew since the start. Damon said on the Still Watching Netflix podcast that he keeps

“hearing about it”

but hasn’t had anything concrete come his way.

Uncertainty Behind the Scenes

Linus Caldwell has been a staple in Ocean’s Eleven, Twelve, and Thirteen, but Damon’s update throws a spanner in the works for those hoping for a full reunion. Clooney, meanwhile, has been more optimistic, recently saying the new film would see the old gang back together, possibly kicking off production in late 2026. He joked about the crew’s age, saying,

“There was something about the idea that we're too old to do what we used to do, but we're still smart enough to know how to get away with something, that just appeals to me. They've lost a step, and they need to find a way to work around their limitations.”

Despite Clooney’s upbeat attitude, Damon’s comments suggest the project is still in limbo. He hasn’t seen a script and isn’t sure if one even exists.

“You know, we have to get a script, we have to get, you know, there's a lot of ducks we have to get in a row. I do know that everybody would love to do it. You know, the group of people would love to get back together.”

Other Projects and Possible Cameos

During the interview, Damon also touched on what’s next for him. He spoke about working with Christopher Nolan on The Odyssey, calling it a standout experience.

“I'm still kind of unpacking it, but it did have a profound effect on me,”

he said, reflecting on the project.

“I deeply enjoyed every minute of it. Doing The Odyssey this last year, it felt like my one chance in my life to make a David Lean movie, that I was making the last big movie on film that I was ever going to get to make.”

As for Ocean’s 14, Damon’s update is a far cry from the certainty fans might have hoped for. He’s not ruling it out, but he’s not making any promises either. The only thing that seems clear is that the cast would be keen to reunite if the stars align.

Ben Affleck’s Interest in Joining the Crew

One interesting tidbit from the chat was Damon’s mention of Ben Affleck, his long-time mate and collaborator. Apparently, Affleck has been angling for a spot in the Ocean’s world. Damon shared,

“He's like, 'I've been trying to get in these movies.' He goes, 'How many of these have you done?' Maybe we can put him in a cameo as Ben Affleck.”

For now, fans will have to wait and see if the much-loved crew will pull off another heist, or if Ocean’s 14 will remain just a rumour swirling around Hollywood.
