Michelle Monaghan Shines in Family Plan 2, Not Just Mark Wahlberg’s Show

Michelle Monaghan has once again captured the attention of filmgoers, this time stepping into a new franchise after her well-known run in the Mission: Impossible series. The latest instalment, Family Plan 2, has quickly become a favourite among Christmas releases, offering a blend of action and comedy that’s struck a chord with punters. The film’s success has paved the way for its sequel, which recently landed on AppleTV.

Spotlight on the Whole Family

Reflecting on her experience, Monaghan spoke about the dynamic on set and how the story doesn’t just revolve around Mark Wahlberg’s character. She pointed out that the film gives each family member their moment, including a memorable chase scene where her character, Jessica, outpaces Wahlberg’s Dan. Monaghan highlighted the active roles played by all, from the tech-savvy Kyle, portrayed by Van Crosby, to Zoe Colletti’s Nina, who’s determined to make a difference. She described Wahlberg’s Dan as the family’s “workhorse”.

What’s really special is that the family all has to depend on each other, and they all lean on their respective strengths to help them beat the odds. That’s something that we can all relate to in terms of family dynamics. Obviously, it’s heightened because of the nature of the film.

Family-Friendly Appeal

Family Plan 2 was filmed in London and released on 21 November 2025. The first film was met with enthusiasm, and the sequel followed suit, quickly becoming a hit on streaming. Monaghan expressed her appreciation for the opportunity to share a project with her own family, noting that it’s rare for her kids to be able to watch her work. She said,

I’ve done a wide range of work in my career, but I can count on one hand the number of projects that my kids can actually watch. So The Family Plan allowed me to sit them down and say, ‘Hey, Mum made this. We can all watch it together. You don’t have to wait three or four more years before I say it’s okay.’

Monaghan, married to Peter White, has two children: Willow Katherine, born in 2008, and Tommy Francis, born in 2013. She’s spoken about how meaningful it is to have a film the whole family can enjoy together.

Wahlberg’s Streaming Success

Mark Wahlberg has made a name for himself on streaming platforms, with a string of hits since 2020. This year, he starred in Play Dirty alongside LaKeith Stanfield and Rosa Salazar, which topped the charts on Prime Video. Family Plan and its sequel have also performed strongly, with the original becoming AppleTV’s most-watched film. Wahlberg’s recent run includes seven streaming projects across four different services, showing his knack for drawing in viewers.
