Mickey Rourke Turns to GoFundMe as Eviction Looms
Facing the threat of losing his Los Angeles home, Mickey Rourke has launched a GoFundMe campaign to cover overdue rent. Supporters have already contributed more than half of the $100,000 target.
Veteran actor Mickey Rourke has kicked off a public fundraising campaign in a bid to keep a roof over his head in Los Angeles. The GoFundMe page, set up on 4 January, comes after Rourke reportedly received a notice last month demanding he pay $60,000 in overdue rent or move out. So far, punters have chipped in over $51,000 towards the $100,000 goal, showing there’s still plenty of goodwill for the bloke.
The campaign, titled ‘Help Mickey Rourke Stay in His Home’, paints a picture of a star who once shook up American cinema.
“Mickey Rourke entered American cinema like a force of nature—raw, fearless, and utterly original. In the late 1970s and 1980s, he wasn’t just a movie star; he was a symbol of something rare: danger paired with vulnerability, toughness paired with heart.”
The page goes on to highlight the ups and downs Rourke has faced, especially after the film industry moved on and left him behind once his heyday faded.
Struggles Behind the Scenes
According to the fundraiser, the effort was launched with Rourke’s blessing, aiming to give him a fair go at avoiding eviction.
“Fame does not protect against hardship, and talent does not guarantee stability. What remains is a person who deserves dignity, housing, and the chance to regain his footing,”
the description adds. It’s a reminder that even those who’ve been in the spotlight aren’t immune to tough times.
Rourke’s career took off in the 1980s, when he became a household name in action films. But his reputation for being a bit of a wild card, along with some controversial opinions, eventually saw him sidelined by the industry. Despite his earlier success, the years since haven’t always been kind.
Recent Headlines and Reality TV Drama
Most recently, the 73-year-old made headlines for his stint on the British reality show Celebrity Big Brother in 2025. His time on the programme was cut short after he was shown the door early, following reports of sexual and aggressive comments directed at two other contestants. Not exactly a great look, and it didn’t help his public image.
Adding to his woes, Rourke announced in April 2025 that he planned to take legal action against broadcaster ITV. He claimed he’d only received £50,000 of the £500,000 he was promised for appearing on the show, which no doubt added to his financial headaches.
Support from Fans and the Industry
Despite the setbacks, Rourke’s supporters have rallied around him. The GoFundMe campaign’s strong response shows there’s still plenty of respect for his contributions to film, even if the industry itself has moved on. For now, the actor is relying on the generosity of fans and well-wishers to help him stay in his longtime home.
