Mike Colter hints at a possible return as Luke Cage, revealing he has 'unfinished business' with the character as Marvel's Daredevil: Born Again gears up for its second season on Disney Plus.

Mike Colter, the bloke behind Luke Cage, has dropped a few hints about stepping back into the Marvel universe. Chatting on the On That Note Podcast (via IGN), Colter shared,

“Listen, I will say this, I've had conversations... and I'll leave it at that. Because when it wrapped... y'know I loved playing Luke Cage but I love acting and doing different things. So I just was like, 'I'll do something else.' I love the fans and I love that world. And it's been years now. So now, I'm doing other projects, but now I think to myself 'I have some unfinished business there.'”

Before Marvel folded these heroes into the MCU, Daredevil and Jessica Jones kicked things off on Netflix back in 2015. Their success paved the way for Luke Cage, Iron Fist, and The Punisher. The real treat for fans came when these characters teamed up in The Defenders, a short-lived but much-talked-about supergroup. Luke Cage ran for two series starting in 2016, with a cast featuring the likes of Rosario Dawson, Mahershala Ali, and Stephen Rider, who’s since popped up in It: Welcome to Derry.

Rumours Swirl Around Defenders Reunion

The first season of Daredevil: Born Again brought Jon Bernthal back as Frank Castle, better known as the Punisher. Krysten Ritter is also set to return as Jessica Jones in the upcoming second season. With Jessica’s comeback, talk of a Defenders reunion has been doing the rounds, but Colter says he hasn’t had the call just yet. He explained,

“I talked to Cheo [Hodari Coker] about it, he was the creator and showrunner [on Netflix's Luke Cage series], and now I've reached the point where I'm like, 'I have some unfinished business' and I think Daredevil's back so, c'mon... Jessica's back.”

Despite the speculation, Colter’s comments suggest he’s keen but still waiting for official word. Fans are left wondering if the much-loved hero will finally make his way back to the screen alongside his old mates.

What’s Next for Marvel Fans

The second season of Daredevil: Born Again is set to land on Disney Plus in March 2026. While punters wait for more news on Colter’s possible return, there’s plenty to keep up with in the Marvel world. The studio has a packed slate of upcoming films and series, so there’s no shortage of action for those keen on superhero stories.

For now, fans will have to keep their eyes peeled for any updates on Luke Cage’s future. With Colter’s “unfinished business” hanging in the air, the door’s wide open for a surprise or two down the track.
