Millie Bobby Brown opens up about her journey from child star to adulthood, sharing why the Harry Potter series finale stands out as her top pick for the best ending in film, and how it connects to her experience on Stranger Things.

Growing up in the spotlight isn’t exactly a walk in the park, especially when you’re thrust into fame before you’ve even hit your teens. Millie Bobby Brown, who first appeared on our screens at just 12, has spent nearly a decade navigating the ups and downs that come with being a household name. Now 21, she often looks back on her early days, weighing up what she’s learnt both on set and in her personal life. While she’s had to deal with the usual dramas of young stardom—like getting hitched and becoming a parent—she’s managed to keep her head above water by focusing on the positives. For her, the years spent on Stranger Things have been a defining chapter, shaping not just her career but her outlook on life.

Learning to Let Go of Self-Critique

Plenty of actors spend years cringing at their own performances, wishing they could go back and tweak every little thing. Brown, though, has already figured out that picking yourself apart is a waste of time. She comes across as wise beyond her years when chatting about her approach to watching herself on screen. Playing Eleven didn’t leave much room for nerves—she had to be all in, especially when it came to the more full-on scenes. That willingness to be open and raw is something she’s carried with her, and as she put it to Backstage,

“leave your humility at the door.”

It’s this attitude that draws her to certain films, too. She’s a big fan of About Time, mainly because its message about regrets really hit home. Looking at her own life, she’s learnt to separate what matters from what doesn’t.

“That is how I lived this season,”

she said,

“I have no regrets, and I’m very proud of the work I’ve done. So I’m not going back in the closet and wanting to change anything.”

Finding Meaning in Stories That Stick

Brown’s experience on Stranger Things has made her appreciate stories that pack an emotional punch. She reckons the best films are the ones that stick with you, especially if they line up with something you’re going through. For heaps of fans, Stranger Things has been a big part of growing up, and there’s a fair bit of pressure riding on how it all wraps up. Brown’s confident, though, that the team has nailed it—almost as well as her pick for the greatest film ending ever.

When asked about her favourite finale, she didn’t hesitate:

“The end of Harry Potter [is my favourite-ever ending],”

she said.

“That’s probably my favourite film, the last one.”

She’s talking about that famous time jump, where we see the main characters as adults with their own kids.

“I think it’s very similar in many ways [to Stranger Things] because you’re following these children, and you’re trying to tie their storylines and character arcs together toward the end. It’s probably the same amount of runtime. I mean, what was it? Ten years for them, too?”

Drawing Parallels Between Two Iconic Endings

For Brown, the magic of the Harry Potter finale lies in how it brings everything full circle. Watching the characters grow up and seeing their stories tied off neatly is something she hopes will resonate with Stranger Things fans as well. Both series have followed their young leads through years of change, and both are set to deliver endings that aim to satisfy punters who’ve stuck with them from the start.

Brown’s reflections show just how much she values stories that offer closure and meaning, whether she’s acting in them or watching from the other side of the screen. It’s clear she’s keen for the next chapter, whatever it brings.
