Robert Pattinson’s Hidden Cameo Brings Chalamet Reunion in Marty Supreme
Robert Pattinson and Timothée Chalamet cross paths again in Marty Supreme, but not in the way fans might expect. Discover how their latest collaboration quietly nods to their shared history.
Josh Safdie has revealed that Robert Pattinson made a sneaky appearance in Timothée Chalamet’s latest film, Marty Supreme, though not in the way most punters would expect. This comes hot on the heels of Pattinson sharing he’s keen to work with the Safdie brothers again, after their previous team-up on Good Time gave his career a fresh spin.
While the two actors don’t actually share the screen in Marty Supreme, the project still marks a kind of reunion after six years apart. Their last collaboration was back in 2019 with The King, where Pattinson played the French Dauphin opposite Chalamet’s King Henry V. Pattinson’s performance in that film was a real standout, earning plenty of praise from critics and fans alike.
Box Office and Critical Reception
Marty Supreme has been making waves with strong reviews, scoring 8.2 on IMDB and a solid 93% on Rotten Tomatoes’ Tomatometer, with an 82% audience score. The King, meanwhile, holds a 7.3 on IMDB and sits at 71% with critics and 84% with viewers on Rotten Tomatoes. Both films have clearly struck a chord with audiences, though Marty Supreme seems to have edged ahead in the popularity stakes.
Pattinson’s Subtle Role in Marty Supreme
Safdie described Pattinson’s involvement as more of a hidden gem than a traditional role. Instead of appearing on camera, Pattinson lent his voice as the English announcer during the British Open Semifinals at the start of the film. It’s the sort of detail that’s easy to miss unless you’re really paying attention.
Safdie explained that the cameo came about quite naturally. Pattinson happened to drop by, and Safdie, needing a British voice for the announcer, decided to rope him in.
No one knows this, but that voice — the commentator, the umpire — is Pattinson. It’s like a little easter egg. Nobody knows about that. … He came and watched some stuff and I was like, I don’t know any British people. So he’s the umpire.
Chalamet, meanwhile, continues his run of festive season releases, with Marty Supreme adding to his growing list of Christmas hits. Next up, he’s set to return for Dune 3, which will see him and Pattinson sharing the screen once more.
Looking Ahead to Dune 3
Although Pattinson’s part in Marty Supreme was more of a background nod, things are shaping up differently for Dune: Part 3. This time, the two actors are expected to face off in a much more direct way.
Pattinson’s casting in the final chapter of Denis Villeneuve’s Dune trilogy has only added to the buzz around the film. While his exact role hasn’t been officially confirmed, word is he’ll be playing Scytale, a Tleilaxu Face Dancer with designs on taking down Paul Atreides, either by forcing him to step aside or by more drastic means. Reflecting on his time filming in the desert, Pattinson joked,
When I was doing ‘Dune’ it was so hot in the desert that I just couldn’t question anything. And it was so relaxing, like my brain actually wasn’t operating, I did not have a single functioning brain cell. And I was just listening to Denis [Villeneuve]: “Whatever you want!”
With Austin Butler having played the main villain in Dune 2, it makes sense for Pattinson to step into the antagonist’s shoes for the next instalment, setting up another memorable clash with Chalamet, much like their dynamic in The King. Fans are already keen to see how this next chapter unfolds.
Marty Supreme is currently screening in cinemas across the US.
