Prime Video’s God of War series has cast Ryan Hurst, the voice of Thor in Ragnarok, as Kratos. The show will follow Kratos and Atreus on their journey, with a release date yet to be announced.

Prime Video has locked in Ryan Hurst to play the lead in its upcoming God of War series. Hurst, who lent his voice to Thor in the 2022 instalment God of War: Ragnarok, is no stranger to the franchise. On screen, he’s known for his turn as Gerry Bertier in Remember the Titans and for his long-running role as Opie in Sons of Anarchy.

The God of War franchise, which kicked off back in 2005, now boasts ten titles across consoles, browsers, and mobiles. Over the years, the main character has become a staple for fans, thanks to the games’ gripping stories and the character’s reputation as a relentless fighter.

Kratos and Atreus Take Centre Stage

Prime Video’s official description gives a bit of insight into what punters can expect:

The titular character of the entire franchise, Kratos is Spartan by birth, and a god by nature. Raised in a martial culture, he rose to command armies in service of his homeland until one day he made a fateful deal with Ares, the Greek God of War and lost his soul in exchange for being victorious in battle.

The series will follow the journey of Kratos and his son Atreus as they set out to fulfil a personal mission—spreading the ashes of Faye, their wife and mother. Along the way, Kratos aims to show his son what it means to be a better god, while Atreus tries to teach his old man a thing or two about being human.

What’s Next for the Series?

There’s no word yet on when the series will hit screens. For now, fans will have to wait for more details about the release date. In the meantime, there’s plenty to keep viewers busy with other top picks on Prime Video.
