Sadie Sink Among Top Contenders for Live-Action Rapunzel
Disney’s Tangled remake is back on the fast track, with Sadie Sink and three other rising stars reportedly in the running for the coveted role. Find out who’s in the mix and which fan favourite has been ruled out.
After a lengthy pause, Disney has reportedly shifted gears and is now moving quickly on its live-action adaptation of Tangled. Word is, Sadie Sink is one of four actresses being seriously considered for the lead role. Alongside her, McKenna Grace, known for Five Nights at Freddy’s 2, Emma Myers from Wednesday, and Isabel May of 1883 fame are all said to be in the mix for the part.
Disney has apparently been running a series of screen tests to find the right fit for Rapunzel, though it’s not clear if these four have actually auditioned yet. Sink seems to be the frontrunner, especially given her previous work with Disney, which could give her an edge. Still, nothing’s set in stone, and the studio hasn’t made any official announcements about the casting process so far.
Fan Favourite Misses Out on the Role
When news first broke about the Tangled remake, heaps of fans were quick to back Sabrina Carpenter for the role. Many reckoned she matched the character’s look and had the singing chops to pull it off. Her name was thrown around a lot as the ideal choice for Rapunzel.
However, it seems Carpenter is no longer in the running. According to a semi-reliable scooper, Disney decided against casting her, reportedly because she was considered “too pretty” for the part. The claim hasn’t been confirmed by either Disney or Carpenter, so punters should take it with a grain of salt.
Yes, Sabrina Carpenter had a meeting with Disney about playing Rapunzel in the live-action Tangled movie. However, the company felt she was "too pretty" and wanted someone who looks a bit more ordinary for the role. Bella Hadid also auditioned for the part but did not get it. pic.twitter.com/zGIrBPLNzd
Other Notable Names Out of Contention
It’s not just Carpenter who’s missed out. Ariana Grande and Bella Hadid have also reportedly been ruled out for the role. With Disney’s live-action Moana 2 set to hit screens next year, the studio’s focus on reimagining animated classics is showing no signs of slowing down. It’s likely we’ll hear more concrete news about Tangled’s casting before too long.
