Shadows of Wakanda: Black Panther 3 Set to Film in London
Black Panther 3 gears up for filming in London, with Shuri stepping into the spotlight as Wakanda faces new challenges. Find out what’s in store for the much-anticipated sequel.
After a long stretch without any word, the third Black Panther film is finally making waves, with fresh details emerging about its production. The next chapter in the saga is expected to kick off filming in London on 15 June 2026, marking a major step forward for Marvel’s Phase 6 line-up. While there’s still no official release date, the start of filming suggests it won’t be too long before punters get a look at what’s next for Wakanda.
The upcoming instalment is rumoured to carry the title “Shadows of Wakanda.” This time around, the story will delve into the nation’s fragility following the loss of T’Challa, with Shuri taking on the dual role of protector and leader. Letitia Wright is set to reprise her role, stepping up as the new face of the Black Panther legacy.
Shuri Steps Up as Wakanda’s New Leader
Hints have been floating about Shuri’s central role since the last film, where she took up the mantle after the deaths of her brother and mother. The plot for the third entry all but confirms her survival through the events of “Avengers: Doomsday,” which is due out this December, and “Avengers: Secret Wars,” arriving the following year. That is, if the timeline places the new film after the sixth Avengers outing.
With Shuri at the helm, the story is set to explore how Wakanda copes with its vulnerabilities and the challenges that come with new leadership. The focus on her character signals a fresh direction for the franchise, with fans keen to see how she handles the weight of responsibility.
New Faces and Returning Favourites
There’s been plenty of chatter about who might don the Black Panther suit next. F1 star Damson Idris recently addressed speculation about his involvement, saying,
I am thankful to the fans. Of course, it's rumours, but I love that film. I love the world.
While Shuri is leading the charge this time, there’s always a chance Idris could join the universe down the track, possibly as an older version of T’Challa’s son, who made a brief appearance in the previous film’s post-credits scene.
As for the rest of the cast, the only confirmed addition so far is Denzel Washington, who’s been given a brand new role crafted by director Ryan Coogler. It’s expected that Danai Gurira will return as Okoye, alongside Michaela Coel as Aneka and Florence Kasumba as Ayo. If he makes it through “Doomsday,” Winston Duke is likely to be back as Mbaku.
