Sophie Turner opens up about Sansa Stark’s unique ending in Game of Thrones, her thoughts on returning to Westeros, and how her experience differed from her co-stars.

Sophie Turner, who played Sansa Stark in Game of Thrones, has revealed she’s one of the few cast members genuinely satisfied with how things wrapped up for her character. In a recent chat with The Direct, Turner was asked if she’d ever consider stepping back into the world of Westeros for one of the new spin-offs in the works.

“Show me the money (laughs). I don’t know, I think it would be hard but also amazing to come back to it,”

she joked, not ruling out a return but making it clear it’d take something special.

While there’s plenty of talk about fresh projects set in the Thrones universe, details are still up in the air. One much-discussed sequel, Snow, which would have followed Jon Snow after the main series, was canned before it even got off the ground.

Reflecting on Sansa’s Ending

Turner went on to share her thoughts about how things ended for Sansa, especially compared to her fellow cast.

“But I feel that I was very happy with the way Sansa ended her story in Game of Thrones, and no one else was really happy with their ending,”

she said.

“I feel like I got a good one, and so I don’t know if I could revisit it.”

It’s not hard to see why she feels that way. Sansa finished the series as Queen in the North, with her homeland gaining independence from the rest of the realm. Not everyone else’s character got such a tidy send-off, and Turner seems to recognise she drew the long straw.

Returning to Westeros?

Turner admitted she’s torn about the idea of coming back, unsure if it would be a joy or just an attempt to recapture old magic.

“Maybe it would be an utter joy, or maybe it would be trying to cling on to something that was magic back in the day that can’t be recreated. I would have to see a script.”

While she’s open to the idea, her former co-star Kit Harington, who played Jon Snow, seems far less keen. When asked if he’d voice Jon Snow in an audiobook, Harington replied,

“No, god no. I don’t wanna go anywhere near it. I spent 10 years doing that. Thanks, I’m alright.”

Clearly, he’s happy to leave the past in the past.

What’s Next for the Thrones Universe

For fans still hungry for more from Westeros, the next big thing is A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, set to premiere on HBO in the US on January 18 and on Sky/NOW TV in the UK the following day. There’s also a heap of other Thrones-related projects in the pipeline, so punters keen for more drama from the Seven Kingdoms have plenty to look forward to.
