A new adversary may be joining the Godzilla x Kong: Supernova line-up, with hints pointing to SpaceGodzilla making a long-awaited return to the big screen.

Fans of giant monster flicks might be in for a surprise with the next instalment in the Godzilla x Kong series. Whispers are swirling that the much-hyped Godzilla x Kong: Supernova could introduce SpaceGodzilla as a fresh threat, marking the first time this particular kaiju has appeared in a Hollywood production in over three decades.

According to a listing in the Writers Guild of America West directory, a project under the working title 'Zeus' is described as

Based on the characters 'Godzilla' and 'Space Godzilla' owned and created by ToHo Co., LTD.

This points to the possibility that SpaceGodzilla, a mutated doppelganger of the famous lizard, will be making a comeback. First seen in the 1994 film Godzilla vs. SpaceGodzilla, this creature has since popped up in video games, comics, and telly shows, but has been missing from cinemas for yonks.

SpaceGodzilla: A Formidable New Foe

SpaceGodzilla stands out from the crowd with his bulkier build, longer tail, and distinctive tusks. The crystals along his tail aren’t just for show—they let him soak up energy from his surroundings, giving him a serious power boost. Back in the '90s, his origin story was a bit of a wild ride: G-cells from Godzilla ended up in space, got sucked into a black hole, and then spat out of a white hole, resulting in this cosmic beast. It’s the sort of thing you just have to roll with—after all, who doesn’t want to see a massive monster floating about in space?

Despite his popularity among die-hard fans, SpaceGodzilla has never had a shot at Hollywood stardom until now. If the rumours are true, his appearance in Supernova will be a first for Western audiences, and a big moment for the franchise.

Cast, Crew, and What’s Next

Grant Sputore is set to direct the upcoming film, with Dan Stevens returning as Trapper Beasley. He’ll be joined by a fresh line-up, including Kaitlyn Dever, Delroy Lindo, Sam Neill, Jack O’Connell, Matthew Modine, and Alycia Debnam-Carey. The script comes from Michael Lloyd Green and David Callaham, who’ve previously worked on blockbusters like Shang-Chi and Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse.

Godzilla x Kong: Supernova is scheduled to hit Aussie cinemas on 26 March 2027. While punters wait, there’s plenty of time to catch up on the best upcoming films or revisit the top picks from 2025. Whether you’re a long-time kaiju fan or just keen for a bit of monster mayhem, this one’s shaping up to be a must-see.
