Hulk’s rage has been sidelined in recent Marvel films, but with Spider-Man: Brand New Day on the horizon, fans might finally see the green giant pushed further than ever before.

Among the original Avengers, it’s hard to argue anyone’s been more underused than Hulk. His legendary temper, a defining trait in the comics, has been dialled right down in recent Marvel outings. Many punters reckon this shift has left the character feeling a bit toothless, especially after his limited role in the multiverse saga and a brief stint in She-Hulk. With Spider-Man: Brand New Day on the way, though, there’s a real buzz that the big bloke might finally get his moment in the sun again.

Word is, Marvel’s got plans to dig deep into the emotional baggage of both Bruce Banner and Peter Parker. According to Alex Perez, a semi-reliable scooper, the upcoming film will see both characters forced to confront their own guilt and trauma.

The events of Brand New Day are going to force both of these characters to come face-to-face with their own personal trauma and guilt over the events of their past as they come bubbling to the surface. And you have to think about what effect that can have on these two characters, particularly.

With Mark Ruffalo confirmed to return, fans are keen to see if this means a return to the classic, unpredictable Hulk—maybe even bigger than what we saw in Age of Ultron.

Hulk’s Anger Returns to Centre Stage

For a character whose anger is legendary, it’s surprising how little we’ve seen of it since Age of Ultron. Brand New Day looks set to change that, with Perez suggesting that Bruce will be pushed to extremes not yet seen in live-action. The trauma and guilt both heroes face could be the spark that reignites Hulk’s raw power.

There’s talk that these moments might even outdo his previous rampages. Unlike Age of Ultron, where the destruction was massive but casualties were nil, this time Hulk’s fury could have real consequences.

For Hulk, it’s similar, except it unleashes a big green monster on the rampage, angrier than he’s ever been before. In previous iterations, Hulk, dare I say, shows restraint in the MCU? Even during the events of Age of Ultron when he was under the control of the Scarlet Witch, people were seriously injured and scared, but if I recall, he never killed anyone. In Brand New Day, he might get pushed to the point where he might just kill somebody.

After years of fans calling for a proper take on the character, this could be the film that finally delivers.

Standalone Hulk Film Still Out of Reach

One big reason Hulk hasn’t reached the same heights as his fellow Avengers is the lack of a solo film. The 2008 release didn’t exactly set the world on fire, and ongoing rights issues between Universal and Marvel have kept another standalone entry off the table. That’s left the character mostly on the sidelines, despite his popularity.

Mark Ruffalo himself has addressed the situation, pointing out the legal hurdles that have kept a solo project from happening.

Yeah, I’d love to have a solo Hulk movie. I don’t know if you know the story of that, but it’s not really owned by Marvel. It’s a Universal property. I don’t know if it’ll ever really come to be, honestly.

For now, all eyes are on Brand New Day and the next Avengers films to see if Hulk finally gets the spotlight he deserves.

Anticipation Builds for Hulk’s Return

With Brand New Day set for release on 31 July 2026, fans are already speculating about what’s in store for the green giant. After years of waiting, there’s hope that this film will finally give Hulk the depth and intensity that’s been missing. Are you keen to see what’s next for the character?
