Noah Schnapp opens up about how a Stranger Things season 5 poster almost let slip a major episode 4 twist about Will Byers’ new abilities, and the careful choices behind the artwork.

Turns out, the cat was almost out of the bag for Stranger Things fans, and it wasn’t a demogorgon this time. Will Byers, played by Noah Schnapp, has finally stepped into the spotlight in the first part of the show’s last season, with a reveal that’s got everyone talking. After years of being the quiet one in the background, Will’s now showing off powers that put him on par with Vecna and Eleven. But, as Schnapp recently shared, the show’s promo material nearly gave the game away before punters even had a chance to watch the new episodes.

Promo Art Nearly Spills the Beans

In a chat with Glamour, Schnapp explained that a key piece of artwork for the season was dangerously close to revealing Will’s big moment.

“It’s always supposed to kind of feel the vibe of the season and give an essence of where everyone’s characters stand in that era and chapter of our story,”

he said. The design team wanted to show Will’s growing confidence, but without making it too obvious.

“So yeah, you can see a strength in him on there. And obviously, they didn’t want to spoil it with any blood or anything, but as close as you can get. Everything is very intentional that we do.”

The poster shows Will standing tall at the top of a tower, right under Vecna, hinting at the new abilities he’s about to unleash. It’s subtle, but for eagle-eyed fans, it was almost a dead giveaway.

Will’s Journey and Hidden Strength

This season marks a massive shift for Will, who’s spent most of the series dealing with trauma and fear. Schnapp reckons people have misunderstood his character’s quietness for weakness.

“I think people mistake fear for weakness. Will has had a lot of fear through the years because of what he’s had to endure, but that doesn’t mean he’s weak,”

Schnapp argued.

“He’s pushed through that and come out stronger, and he does it scared every time. He always comes back, and he never crumbles. So that is his strength, and I think he shows that in the end, that he is stronger than we all think.”

Will’s resilience is finally front and centre, and it’s clear he’s not the same kid who vanished in season one.

Setting Up for a Big Finish

With the return of Kali, Eleven’s old mate, the stage is set for a showdown that’s got fans keen for what’s next. The Duffer Brothers aren’t holding back, and the last four episodes promise to be a wild ride. The next batch of episodes drops on Christmas Day, with the grand finale landing on New Year’s Eve. Whether Will and the rest of the Hawkins crew can finally put an end to Vecna remains to be seen, but one thing’s for sure – the stakes have never been higher.
