Tessa Thompson Eyes Marvel Comeback, But Not in Doomsday?
Tessa Thompson has hinted at a possible return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, though she’s keeping quiet about any role in Avengers: Doomsday. She’s also open to more Creed films.
For actors in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, keeping quiet about future projects is almost a rite of passage. Tessa Thompson, who plays Valkyrie, recently found herself dodging questions about whether she’ll be back for Avengers: Doomsday. With so many big names rumoured for the next instalment—including Robert Downey Jr. making a comeback, this time as Doctor Doom—her silence isn’t exactly a shock.
When asked about her involvement, Thompson kept things vague, neither confirming nor denying anything. While chatting about her latest Netflix drama, His & Hers, she was pressed on whether Valkyrie would be suiting up again.
“Oh, [I’m] not able to confirm anything,”
she said, keeping her cards close to her chest. But when it came to the idea of returning to that world, she didn’t hesitate.
“Yeah, definitely,”
she replied.
“And I think this is the coolest thing about hanging out inside of the Marvel Cinematic Universe: all the incredible people that you get to play with, both the incredible craftspeople that create these worlds, all the amazing directors that they invite into these spaces, and all of the incredible talent. And also, I think there are so many tonal spaces you can go to inside of a Marvel movie.”
Valkyrie’s Journey and Thompson’s Enthusiasm
Valkyrie has popped up in four films and a couple of animated series within the Marvel universe, taking on everything from god-slayers to zombies. Thompson’s versatility has matched her character’s, and she’s clearly got a soft spot for the role.
“You can explore drama and comedy, and there’s so much to do,”
she added.
“And I just love the character so much that I would always be interested. For sure.”
Her affection for the role is obvious, and she seems genuinely keen to see where Valkyrie could go next. Whether it’s a major blockbuster or a smaller project, she’s not ruling anything out.
Open to More Than Just Marvel
It’s not just the Marvel universe that Thompson is open to revisiting. She’s also up for another round in the Creed franchise, where she stars alongside Michael B. Jordan as Adonis Creed.
“We love those films so much,”
Thompson shared.
“And I think there’s still more to say if audiences want to show up. I think we want to be there for them and with them.”
Her willingness to return to both franchises shows she’s not ready to hang up her gloves or hammer just yet. Whether she’s leading Asgard or standing in Creed’s corner, Thompson’s enthusiasm for her characters is clear.
Looking Ahead
For now, Thompson’s future in the Marvel universe remains a mystery. She’s not giving anything away, but her interest in returning is obvious. Whether she’s back as Valkyrie or taking on another challenge, fans will be watching closely to see where she turns up next.
