Teyana Taylor shares her all-time favourite film and opens up about her acting journey, personal preferences, and life beyond the screen.

Anyone who’s been following the latest in cinema this year has probably caught One Battle After Another. Paul Thomas Anderson’s ambitious, era-defining thriller has been the talk of the town since its release. While it hasn’t won over every punter, most critics and locals have been raving, and it’s tipped to clean up at the next Oscars. There’s been plenty of chatter about the big names—Leonardo DiCaprio, Sean Penn, and the memorable Chase Infiniti—but it’s hard to ignore the impact Teyana Taylor has made. Playing Perfidia Beverly Hills, the sharp-tongued, gun-wielding partner to DiCaprio’s character, Taylor doesn’t dominate the screen time, but when she’s there, you can’t look away. It’s easily her most prominent role so far.

After shifting her focus from music to acting—her vocals featured on Kanye West’s My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy—Taylor’s career has only gained momentum. Now, with her name attached to one of the year’s most talked-about films, fans are keen to know what she’s into herself. When asked about her top pick, she didn’t hesitate.

“My favourite movie of all time is Pretty Woman,”

she told Us magazine.

“I’ve watched it so many times.”

Classic Rom-Coms and Lasting Appeal

Pretty Woman, directed by Garry Marshall and released in 1990, was the first time Richard Gere and Julia Roberts teamed up on screen. Their chemistry was a big draw, helping the film rake in over $460 million from a modest $14 million budget. For Roberts, it was a game-changer—she went from being relatively unknown to an Oscar nominee everyone wanted to work with. The film’s reputation as a classic is well-earned, even if Gere himself isn’t a fan these days.

Taylor’s admission came as part of a feature called ‘25 Things You Didn’t Know About Me’. Alongside her love for the iconic rom-com, she also shared a few other personal favourites: a biography of fashion designer Gianni Versace tops her reading list, Hawaii is her go-to holiday spot, and when it comes to “old school rock bands”, she’s partial to Green Day and Blink-182. If you’re feeling a bit ancient after hearing those bands called “old school”, you’re not alone.

Personal Life and Favourite Things

Taylor also opened up about her relationship with NBA player Iman Shumpert, which likely influenced her support for the Sacramento Kings. When asked what she liked most about him, she replied,

“his height and his man parts”.

Unfortunately, those qualities weren’t enough to keep things going, and the pair split in 2024.

Despite changes in her personal life, Taylor’s devotion to her favourite film hasn’t wavered. In a 2025 chat with Letterboxd, she again listed Pretty Woman among her ‘Four Favourites’. It’s clear that, after all these years, the story of unexpected romance in Hollywood still strikes a chord with her.
