Avengers: Doomsday is set to be a massive MCU event, with the X-Men finally making their debut. But will Rogue be part of the action? Dive in to find out what’s really going on with this fan-favourite mutant.

With Avengers: Doomsday on the horizon, anticipation is running high as the X-Men prepare to step into the Marvel Cinematic Universe. After Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine was confirmed, fans have been buzzing about which other mutants might show up. One name that keeps popping up is Anna Marie LeBeau, better known as Rogue. But for those hoping to see her in action, the outlook isn’t too flash.

Who’s In and Who’s Out?

So far, the line-up for Doomsday includes some big hitters: Professor X, Magneto, Cyclops, Beast, Nightcrawler, Gambit, and Mystique are all set to appear. Rogue, though, hasn’t made the cut. Word from an insider, known for leaking details about Daredevil: Born Again, suggests Rogue won’t be joining the mutant crew this time around. The post, which has since vanished from social media, hinted that things could change after reshoots, but didn’t sound hopeful.

I will say this is everything I’ve heard BEFORE the reshoots they’re planning, so maybe they could possibly be added…I personally doubt they would play any major role if they were to be added…my money is on Secret Wars.

Alongside Rogue, Storm and Jean Grey are also tipped to be missing from the upcoming film.

Rogue’s Abilities in the Comics

Rogue’s story in the comics is a tough one. Her mutant gift lets her absorb memories, powers, and even the life force of anyone she touches. It’s a power that’s left her pretty isolated, always keeping her distance from others. Despite this, she eventually finds a bit of happiness with Gambit, giving fans a glimpse of her softer side.

Her main ability is absorption—just a brief touch and she can take on someone’s memories, skills, and even their powers. This has led to some rough moments, like when a kiss left Gambit in a coma, only for her to discover his involvement in the Mutant Massacre. The cost of her powers is steep, even if it gives her an edge in a fight. She’s also permanently taken on Captain Marvel’s superhuman abilities.

On top of that, Rogue’s got the usual superhuman package: strength, stamina, durability, agility, and reflexes. She can fly, too. She’s handy with a sword and has picked up a few acrobatic tricks from her brother, Nightcrawler.

Anna Paquin’s Take on Returning as Rogue

Anna Paquin brought Rogue to life in the X-Men films, popping up in Days of Future Past and getting a bigger role in the Rogue Cut. It’s been more than ten years since she last played the character, but would she be up for another round? Turns out, she’s keen. In an interview with Entertainment Tonight in April 2024, Paquin said she’d be back if she was simply asked.

She also mentioned being a bit let down that she never got to fly in the films, something she’d like to see fixed if she ever returned. “I never got to fly, come on,” she said. Fans have shared her frustration, feeling the films didn’t do her character justice. Still, she’s had a bit of a comeback in X-Men ’97, which has given her some redemption.

If Paquin does return for Doomsday, maybe the directors will finally let her take to the skies. Would you like to see her back, or are you hoping for someone new in the role?

Avengers: Doomsday is set to hit cinemas on 18 December 2026.
