The much-loved zombie comedy sequel Zombieland: Double Tap has landed on Prime Video, bringing back the original crew for another round of undead chaos and sharp-witted survival.

One of the most entertaining zombie follow-ups has just found a new home for streaming. Sequels in the horror world often struggle to live up to their originals, with plenty of franchises missing the mark on a second go. Even the highly praised 28 Days Later couldn’t quite recapture the magic with its own sequel. Meanwhile, some underappreciated gems like World War Z are still waiting for their next chapter. But there’s one standout that managed to bottle lightning twice: Zombieland: Double Tap.

As of 1 January 2026, Zombieland: Double Tap is available to stream on Prime Video. The sequel, which first hit cinemas in 2019, arrived a full decade after the original. Fans will be pleased to see the main cast back in action—Woody Harrelson, Jesse Eisenberg, Emma Stone, and Abigail Breslin all return, joined by Zoey Deutch, Rosario Dawson, Luke Wilson, and, of course, Bill Murray. The first film followed four survivors making their way to a supposedly safe amusement park, only to find it wasn’t quite the haven they’d hoped for. Still, the group managed to stick together and survive another ten years, setting the stage for Double Tap.

New Threats and Familiar Faces

This time around, the crew faces off against a new breed of zombies—smarter, faster, and much harder to take down. When one of their own goes missing, the group is forced to leave the safety of the White House and head for Graceland in Memphis. Along the way, they cross paths with other post-apocalyptic fighters and a commune of survivors, all while trying to outwit the relentless undead. The official synopsis sums it up:

"Zombie slayers Tallahassee, Columbus, Wichita and Little Rock leave the confines of the White House to travel to Graceland in Memphis, Tenn. Along the way, they encounter other post-apocalyptic warriors and a group of survivors who find refuge in a commune. The scrappy fighters must now rely on their wits and weapons more than ever as they soon find themselves in a relentless battle against smarter, faster, and seemingly indestructible zombies."

While many sequels to classic films end up falling flat, Double Tap managed to hold its own. It scored a 68% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, with punters giving it an even stronger 88%. At the box office, it pulled in $122 million worldwide, not bad at all considering its $42 million budget. It might not have smashed records, but it certainly turned a tidy profit and kept fans keen for more.

What’s Next for Zombieland?

There’s been plenty of chatter about whether the story will continue. During the promo run for Now You See Me: Now You Don’t, director Ruben Fleischer gave fans a bit of hope, saying:

"I'm hoping that we'll do a Zombieland 3 in 2029," Fleischer said, continuing, "We're starting to talk about that because [the first] one was 2009, and then we did the second one in 2019, and we kind of left that one all saying, 'We'll see you in 10 years.' That's coming up now, and so we're starting to figure that out, so I'm hoping that'll come together."

It’s the first time anyone’s heard a director mention a third instalment out loud. There’s no official word from Sony Pictures just yet, but with the ten-year pattern, fans reckon there’s a fair chance the crew could be back for another round of zombie mayhem before too long.
