Lindsay Lohan Eyes Iconic Role in All About Eve
Lindsay Lohan shares her ambition to play Margo Channing, reflecting on her career comeback and admiration for classic Hollywood legends. Discover what draws her to this timeless role.
For years, many have written off Lindsay Lohan’s work as just a string of rom-coms and forgettable streaming flicks. But back in the day, she was tipped as one of the brightest young talents around. It’s a bit rough to question her taste, especially when she’s always looked up to the greats from Hollywood’s golden era.
Lately, Lohan’s been making a bit of a comeback. The much-hyped sequel to Freaky Friday put her back in the spotlight, reuniting her with Jamie Lee Curtis after more than two decades. Before that, she’d been popping up in a bunch of Christmas-themed romantic comedies on Netflix, which all sort of blended into one. But the box office numbers for Freakier Friday show she might be ready to get serious about her craft again.
Reckoning with the Past
Even when she was at her peak, Lohan’s acting chops were often overlooked. Films like The Parent Trap and Mean Girls might not have screamed ‘prestige’, but she brought a real honesty to those roles that’s hard to find. These days, with so few decent teen comedies around, it’s clear critics didn’t give her enough credit back then.
She’s always been aware of her place in the film world. Every now and then, she’s teamed up with unique directors—Paul Schrader, for one, and Robert Altman, who cast her in his last ever film. Lohan’s never shied away from trying something different, even if it meant stepping out of the limelight for a while.
Dreaming of Margo Channing
In a chat with Indiewire, Lohan revealed the role she’d love to tackle most: Margo Channing, the legendary Broadway star made famous by Bette Davis in Billy Wilder’s Best Picture winner, All About Eve.
“In that movie, you just can’t take your eyes off her,”
she said.
“It’s one of those movies you can never remake because it’s so perfect, but that would be the dream role to play, just the dialogue in it.”
All About Eve stands as one of the most cherished classics from Hollywood’s heyday. It’s both a love letter to the industry and a sharp, honest look at what it’s really like to be an actor. For someone like Lohan, who’s seen the highs and lows of fame, it’s easy to see why Margo’s story hits home.
Parallels with a Hollywood Legend
There’s a bit of irony in how Lohan’s journey mirrors Bette Davis’s own. Davis was a star from a young age, hailed as a once-in-a-generation talent. All About Eve was her big comeback after a run of less impressive films, putting her back on top and leading to more iconic roles down the track.
While All About Eve is probably too much of a classic to ever get a proper remake, Lohan might just find a role with the same punch—one that could put her back in the centre of things, just like Davis managed all those years ago.
