Ridley Scott’s adaptation of ‘The Dog Stars’ starring Jacob Elordi has been rescheduled for a late 2026 release, while ‘Ready or Not 2: Here I Come’ is now set for March that year.

20th Century Studios and Disney have shifted the release date for Ridley Scott’s upcoming project, The Dog Stars. The much-anticipated film, which features Jacob Elordi in the lead, will now hit cinemas in the back end of 2026. This change comes as part of a broader reshuffle, with Ready or Not 2: Here I Come moving up to a March slot the same year.

Back in November 2024, Scott announced that his next directorial effort after Gladiator II would be a screen adaptation of Peter Heller’s 2012 science fiction novel, The Dog Stars. The story is set in a post-pandemic world, where most of humanity has been wiped out. It follows a bloke living with his dog and a solitary gun, scraping by in the aftermath of disaster.

Plot and Setting

The narrative unfolds in a future where civilisation has all but collapsed. The main character, accompanied only by his loyal canine and a single firearm, tries to survive in a landscape stripped of order and comfort. One day, he picks up a mysterious transmission, hinting that there might be others out there—and possibly new threats on the horizon.

Scott’s take on the material is expected to blend his signature visual style with the bleak, contemplative tone of Heller’s novel. The film promises a mix of suspense, survival, and the kind of big questions that have long been a hallmark of the director’s work.

Production and Anticipation

Jacob Elordi, who’s been making waves in recent years, is set to star in the lead role. The casting has generated plenty of buzz among locals and sci-fi fans alike, with many keen to see how Elordi tackles the gritty, isolated world of the story. The production is being closely watched, especially given Scott’s reputation for delivering visually striking and thought-provoking films.

With the new release date now set for late 2026, punters will have to wait a bit longer to see how this post-apocalyptic tale plays out on the big screen. In the meantime, the earlier arrival of Ready or Not 2: Here I Come in March should give audiences something to look forward to as the year kicks off.
