Stranger Things Producer Hints at Even Bigger Surprises Ahead
Stranger Things producer Shawn Levy teases more jaw-dropping twists in volume 2 and the finale, promising even bigger moments after Will Byers' epic reveal in episode 4.
That jaw-dropping moment in the first half of Stranger Things season 5 left everyone stunned – even Shawn Levy, who’s been with the show since the start. But if you reckon that was the peak, think again. The bloke behind the scenes is hinting that what’s coming next will leave punters even more gobsmacked. Levy’s been chatting in the latest SFX mag, and he’s not holding back on the hype.
Will’s Powers Change Everything
Levy’s talking about the scene where Will Byers finally turns the tables, drawing strength from Vecna to take down the Demogorgons and save his mates in episode 4.
“I remember the goosebumps I got when the Duffers pitched it to me. I remember the goosebumps I got all over again when I read the earliest draft of the script, and I sure as hell still get those goosebumps when I watch it,”
he says. The logic behind Will’s transformation just clicked for everyone involved. Levy adds,
“I’ll never forget the first time the brothers pitched me the reveal that Will’s connection to the Mind Flayer, to the Upside Down, finally results, not in his being possessed and compromised, but by being empowered, and it’s confirmed by that defining nosebleed.”
Even More Shocks on the Way
Despite Will’s big moment flipping the story on its head, Levy reckons the next batch of episodes will go even further.
“The next four episodes take you even further into revelations and storytelling that is jaw-droppingly epic and satisfying.”
He’s not giving away what’s coming or when, but he’s made it clear that the finale is going to hit hard. Levy admits he was in tears after watching the last episode, saying,
“What they’ve achieved floored me and moved me profoundly. In fact, I hope the Duffers never reenact the weepy phone call I made to them on FaceTime while I was in London making Star Wars. I watched the finale one night and called them at midnight London time, just fucking sobbing and so astonished by how satisfying it is.”
Plenty of Loose Ends to Tie Up
Netflix is keeping things under wraps for now, but there’s heaps left to sort out. Will’s new abilities, the mystery of the cave, and the return of Eleven’s long-lost sister Eight are all still hanging in the air. With so many threads, the final episodes have their work cut out for them. Volume 1 is already streaming, and volume 2 lands on Christmas Day.
