Makoto Yukimura, the mind behind Vinland Saga, addresses speculation about a third season, clarifying he hasn't heard anything official about new episodes being made.

Fans holding out for another instalment of Vinland Saga will have to keep waiting, as Makoto Yukimura has poured cold water on the latest whispers about a third season being underway. The creator took to Twitter to address the speculation, making it clear he’s not in the loop about any fresh episodes being produced.

“To all the Vinland Saga fans, thank you as always,”

Yukimura wrote.

“I just learned a moment ago that there’s a rumour going around that season 3 of the anime Vinland Saga is currently in production. However, that information hasn’t reached me yet. I hope it’s in production... But man, animating Hild’s crossbow and stuff like that must be really tough, right.”

He didn’t stop there, following up with another post that gave a nod to the enthusiasm of the show’s supporters.

“But I think the rumour starts because there are many people who want season 3,”

he continued.

“Thank you. I am also one of those who wants season 3. Now I have some free time, so I can help out on the production site with something. Like going out to buy lunch boxes or whatever.”

Vinland Saga’s Journey So Far

Yukimura’s manga, which he both wrote and illustrated, ran from 2005 through to 2025. The anime adaptation first hit screens in 2019, with a second season following in 2023. The opening season tracks Thorfinn, a young bloke who becomes a mercenary among Vikings after his father’s death, all in pursuit of revenge. The next batch of episodes jumps ahead, showing Thorfinn’s life taking a different turn as he crosses paths with Einar, a farmer who’s also lost his family.

The series has built a loyal following, with punters keen for more of its gritty storytelling and complex characters. The appetite for a third season is obvious, but for now, there’s nothing official on the cards.

What’s Next for Fans?

While the wait drags on, there’s no shortage of anticipation for what could come next. Yukimura’s comments suggest he’s just as eager as the rest of us to see the story continue, even if it means pitching in behind the scenes in any way he can. For now, fans will have to make do with rewatching old episodes or checking out other much-hyped anime set to drop in 2026.
