2027 now the finish line for The Witcher 5 as Netflix tackles tech fixes
The wait for Geralt’s final chapter just got longer, as Netflix reportedly moves The Witcher Season 5 back — and there’s a reason behind the slowdown.
Filming on The Witcher’s final chapter wrapped a while ago, but the editors and VFX teams aren’t done yet. A new report says the extra post-production runway will push Season 5 to 2027 on Netflix, rather than the late 2026 window fans had been expecting.
According to What’s on Netflix, the delay isn’t tied to reshoots or on-set problems. Instead, the show’s last run reportedly needs more time for visual effects, editing and other finishing work—despite the fact that Seasons 4 and 5 were filmed back-to-back to shorten the gap between them.
Season 5 is now targeting 2027, not late 2026.
Why the delay
The series’ sendoff is effects-heavy—creatures, magic, large-scale battles and sprawling environments—which means the finale’s scope is riding on VFX and polish. The report points to that technical workload as the driver of the revised timeline.
The final chapter
Season 5 will close out the adaptation of Andrzej Sapkowski’s novels, bringing Geralt, Ciri and Yennefer back together for the story’s endgame while carrying forward threads set up in Season 4. It also arrives with the show’s biggest shift: Liam Hemsworth taking over as Geralt of Rivia after Henry Cavill’s exit.
- Liam Hemsworth — Geralt of Rivia, stepping in for Henry Cavill
- Geralt, Ciri and Yennefer converge for the saga’s final showdown
- Adapts the closing chapters of Sapkowski’s book series
- Continues Season 4 storylines and adds new faces, including Ellie Taylor
Netflix hasn’t officially dated the last season; if the reporting holds, viewers won’t return to the Continent until 2027.
Netflix has not announced a premiere date.
