Doctor Who Star Joins God of War Series as Heimdall
Max Parker has landed the role of Heimdall in Prime Video’s live-action God of War series. The show, inspired by the hit video game, follows Kratos and his son Atreus through a Norse myth adventure.
Prime Video’s much-anticipated God of War adaptation has found its Heimdall, with Max Parker stepping into the shoes of the Asgardian sentry. The live-action series, based on the blockbuster game franchise, centres on Kratos and his son Atreus as they navigate a world steeped in Norse legend. The pair’s journey is as much about family as it is about gods and monsters, with Kratos trying to show his son how to be a better deity, while Atreus attempts to teach his old man a thing or two about being human.
Heimdall, a son of Odin, is described as
“unappreciated by his father and underestimated by the rest of the family, and as a result is constantly looking for ways to improve his position in the hierarchy and increase his stature and power.”
The character made his first appearance in the 2022 instalment, God of War Ragnarok, and is set to play a pivotal role in the upcoming series.
Max Parker’s Career and Recent Roles
Parker, who’s no stranger to the small screen, is probably best recognised for his turn as Sergeant Bobby Sullivan in the short-lived Netflix drama Boots. He’s also popped up in the latest season of Doctor Who, and British viewers might remember him from his lengthy run as Luke Posner in Emmerdale, clocking up 84 episodes on the soap.
His casting as Heimdall marks a significant step for the actor, bringing him into the world of high-stakes fantasy and Norse mythology. Fans of the games will be keen to see how Parker brings the complex, ambitious Heimdall to life on screen.
Production Updates and What’s Next
Prime Video hasn’t locked in a release date for the God of War series just yet. While punters wait for the premiere, there’s no shortage of other top picks to stream on the platform. The adaptation was first announced back in 2022, and in 2024, Ronald D. Moore—best known for For All Mankind—was brought on board as showrunner.
In a show of confidence, Prime Video has already ordered two seasons of the series. This move follows the success of other game-to-screen projects like Fallout, signalling high hopes for God of War’s transition from console to telly.
