Emilia Clarke’s Wildest Game of Thrones Fan Encounter
Emilia Clarke shares the unforgettable moment Brad Pitt bid to watch Game of Thrones with her at a charity auction, calling it the most surreal experience of her career.
Landing a role on Game of Thrones brought its fair share of hurdles, but for those in the cast, it also opened doors to some truly unexpected moments. Emilia Clarke, who played one of the show’s most recognisable characters, found herself in the thick of the action both on and off screen. At the height of the series’ popularity, she was often surprised by just how many famous faces were hooked on the fantasy epic. In a world packed with streaming options and endless entertainment, it’s rare for a TV show to become a cultural juggernaut that everyone’s talking about. While big film franchises like The Lord of the Rings or The Avengers have managed it, nothing on telly quite matched the buzz of Game of Thrones.
Even though the show’s reputation took a hit after its much-criticised final season, it still managed to whip up excitement and speculation from people across the industry, even those who had nothing to do with its production. To make the most of the show’s success and support a good cause, Sean Penn invited the cast to his annual charity auction, where punters could bid for the chance to watch a new episode alongside stars like Clarke. For the cast, it was a real eye-opener to see just how much of an impact they’d had on their peers. But for Clarke, one moment stood out above the rest.
Brad Pitt’s Unexpected Bid
During the auction, Clarke was left gobsmacked when one of the night’s biggest names decided to throw his hat in the ring.
“Brad fucking Pitt comes to my rescue! I thought I was going to spontaneously combust. It was, to this day, the strangest, most glorious moment of my adult life,”
she told The Guardian. In the end, Pitt was outbid by one of Clarke’s mates, but the gesture itself was unforgettable. Despite being one of the world’s top film stars, Pitt was clearly keen to get a sneak peek at what was coming up in the much-hyped adaptation of George RR Martin’s work.
Life After Westeros
Clarke’s career has been closely tied to her time on the HBO series, which ran for seven seasons. Some of her co-stars, like Peter Dinklage and Charles Dance, were already well-known before joining the show, though it certainly boosted their profiles. Others, such as Richard Madden and Jason Momoa, saw their characters killed off early, giving them a chance to ride the wave of attention and move on to new projects.
Since leaving Westeros behind, Clarke’s roles haven’t always hit the mark, though it’s hard to pin the blame on her. Few would turn down the chance to play Sarah Connor in a new Terminator film, but Terminator: Genisys ended up being a confusing mess, and even Clarke’s solid take on Linda Hamilton’s character couldn’t save it. Still, there’s hope she’ll have better luck showing off her comedic chops, with a new spy comedy called Ponies for Peacock, where she’ll star alongside Haley Lu Richardson.
