God of War TV Series Taps Shogun Director as Casting Kicks Off
Amazon's God of War series moves into pre-production, with casting underway for Kratos and Atreus and acclaimed director Frederick E.O. Toye set to helm the opening episodes.
After more than three years in the pipeline, Amazon’s adaptation of God of War is finally shifting gears, with pre-production now underway and the hunt on for the actors who’ll bring Kratos and Atreus to life. The much-anticipated series has also locked in Frederick E.O. Toye, a director with a hefty resume, to steer the first two episodes.
Veteran Director Joins the Project
Toye’s name might ring a bell for anyone who’s kept up with telly over the past decade. He’s been behind the camera for some of the biggest shows around, including Westworld, The Walking Dead, The Boys, Watchmen, and Fallout. His work on Shogun even earned him an Emmy for outstanding directing on the second-last episode. With Toye at the helm, the production is shaping up to be a serious contender in the world of video game adaptations.
Kratos and Atreus Casting Underway
As pre-production ramps up, the search is on for the two leads. There’s been plenty of chatter about who’ll step into Kratos’ boots, especially after Christopher Judge, who voices the character in the games, addressed rumours about his involvement.
Christopher Judge, a veteran film and television actor who also plays Kratos in the modern video games, recently pushed back on rumours that he was in talks to portray the character in the show.
So, for now, the roles are still up for grabs, and fans are keen to see who’ll land the parts.
Creative Reboot and New Direction
The series was first announced back in 2022, but things went a bit quiet after the initial buzz. Fast forward to 2024, and the project’s had a creative shake-up, with Ronald D. Moore, known for For All Mankind, stepping in as showrunner. This fresh approach seems to have impressed Amazon, as they’ve already given the green light for two seasons. With the recent success of Fallout, it’s clear Amazon’s hoping to score another hit with this adaptation.
