Jason Statham’s 2011 crime thriller ‘Blitz’ is now streaming on Prime Video in the UK and US, offering a raw, hard-edged performance as a detective on the trail of a cop killer.

Jason Statham’s name is pretty much synonymous with action-packed blockbusters, thanks to his turns in The Transporter, The Meg, and The Mechanic. But there’s one role that often flies under the radar, even though some reckon it’s his best work yet. That film, Blitz, has just landed on Prime Video for punters in the UK and US, giving a fresh chance to catch Statham in top form.

Blitz, which first hit screens in 2011, sees Statham as Detective Sergeant Tom Brant—a copper who’s not exactly big on following the rules. He’s the sort of bloke who’d rather get results than play nice, and he’s not shy about breaking a few bones along the way. Directed by Elliott Lester and written by Nathan Parker, the film also features Paddy Considine, Aidan Gillen, Mark Rylance, Zawe Ashton, Luke Evans, and David Morrissey. The story follows Brant as he hunts down a serial killer targeting police officers across South East London. For those keen to watch, it’s also streaming for free on The Roku Channel in those regions.

Critical Reception and Standout Performances

While Blitz has its rough edges, it’s worth a look for the performances alone. Statham and Considine both throw themselves into their roles, delivering plenty of grit and attitude. The film split critics and audiences, with Rotten Tomatoes scores sitting at 48% and 36% respectively—not exactly a glowing endorsement, but not a total write-off either.

Still, some reviewers found plenty to like. Hot Press gave it a near-perfect 4 out of 5, calling it

“Smart, sharp, shocking, and at times bloody (and bloodily) hilarious, Blitz's witty script and pacy action elevates its simple premise into a brilliantly gritty tale of moral ambiguity.”

Empire described it as

“a rough-cut crime thriller that sees Jason Statham back on familiar turf and doing what he does best.”

The Scotsman noted,

“Ultimately Blitz knows exactly where its strength lies,”

while the Daily Mirror summed it up with another 4 out of 5, saying,

“It's gritty, down and dirty, and Statham has never been better.”

Statham’s Upcoming Projects

Looking ahead, 2026 is shaping up to be a massive year for Statham, with the action star set to headline at least two, possibly three, new thrillers. First up is Shelter, directed by Ric Roman Waugh of Angel Has Fallen fame, which is due to hit cinemas on 30 January 2026. The official synopsis reads:

On a remote coastal island, a reclusive man (Jason Statham) rescues a young girl (Bodhi Rae Breathnach) from a deadly storm, drawing them both into danger. Forced out of isolation, he must confront his turbulent past while protecting her, sending them on a tense journey of survival and redemption.

Statham will also star in Mutiny, directed by Jean-François Richet (Plane), set for release on 21 August 2026. On top of that, he’s teaming up with Timo Tjahjanto, director of Nobody 2 and The Shadow Strays, for The Beekeeper 2, which has been picked up by Amazon MGM Studios for distribution.

Why Blitz Deserves a Second Look

With so many new projects on the horizon, it’s easy to overlook some of Statham’s earlier work. But Blitz stands out as a raw, no-nonsense crime story that lets him flex his acting chops beyond the usual action hero routine. Whether you’re a die-hard fan or just after a solid crime flick, it’s well worth a watch now that it’s streaming again.
