Spider-Man Noir Series to Feature Two Distinct Visual Styles
Spider-Man Noir’s live-action series will offer both a black-and-white version and a unique colour edition inspired by the era, producer Christopher Miller confirms.
The much-anticipated Spider-Man Noir live-action series is set to deliver a fresh take for fans, with two separate versions in the works. Producer Christopher Miller has clarified that, while the show was crafted with a black-and-white aesthetic in mind, there’s also a colour version on the cards. This alternative cut will be styled to reflect the era in which the story unfolds, giving punters a choice in how they experience the series. Miller took to social media to explain,
“It was shot and designed to be in black and white – and there will also be a colour version that has been designed in an exciting and unique period-inspired way. So there is no ‘main’ version.”
Return of a Noir Favourite
This new series brings back the brooding, monochrome Spider-Man variant first introduced in the acclaimed animated film Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse. Earlier in the year, a leaked promo gave locals a sneak peek at the character’s look and a few details about the show, but official info has been thin on the ground. Nicolas Cage leads the cast, joined by Lamorne Morris, Brendan Gleeson, Abraham Popoola, and Jack Huston.
The official synopsis sets the scene:
“Spider-Noir is a live-action series based on the Marvel comic Spider-Man Noir. The story follows an aging and down-on-his-luck private investigator in 1930s New York, played by Academy Award winner Cage, who is forced to grapple with his past life as the city’s one and only superhero.”
Behind the Scenes: Authentic 1930s Vibe
Back in May, cast member Lukas Haas let slip that both black-and-white and colour versions would be available, sharing his experience on set.
“When we filmed it, the monitors were all black and white, so you got this feeling and it looked very, very authentic. To the point that I would actually go and look at the monitor and think I was looking at some older footage, but it was actually just a monitor of what was on the camera at the time. They did a beautiful job with the filters and all that stuff, making it look like genuine old 1930s, black and white film. But obviously, just the writing, and Nic is incredible. It’s just a really fun project and I cannot wait to see how it turns out,”
he said. The production team have clearly gone to great lengths to capture the look and feel of the era, using period-appropriate techniques and visual effects to transport viewers back in time.
What’s Next for the Spider-Verse
While fans are keen for more news on Spider-Man Noir, there’s also plenty of buzz around the next animated instalment, Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse. The film’s release has been pushed back to 2027, leaving audiences waiting a bit longer. At CinemaCon 2025, filmmakers Bob Persichetti and Justin K. Thompson offered a glimpse of what’s to come, sharing images and footage that hint at Miles Morales being on the run.
As for Spider-Man Noir, there’s still no word on when the series will hit screens, but with two visually distinct versions promised, it’s shaping up to be a unique addition to the Marvel line-up.
