Wagner Moura embraces Mr. Sinister rumors for MCU’s X-Men: 'I would love it'
Wagner Moura just broke his silence on those Mister Sinister rumors swirling around Marvel’s X-Men reboot — and where the MCU’s mutant future actually stands now.
While doing press for The Last House, Wagner Moura finally addressed the online drumbeat casting him as Mister Sinister in Marvel’s next X-Men era — and he didn’t dodge the question. Speaking to ScreenRant, the actor said he hasn’t heard a peep from Marvel, but he grew up on the comics and would jump at the chance.
"Dude, I've been reading these things on the internet, and people are sending that to me. I mean, I'm a fan of that whole entire universe, especially when I was a kid reading all those graphic novels and everything. But there's nothing. No one contacted me about it. It's just something that people read. But on the internet, I don't know nothing honestly about it. I would love it."
The internet’s fan-casting has centered on Moura as Nathaniel Essex — better known as Mister Sinister, the genetics-obsessed X-Men villain who, despite decades of comic-book notoriety, still hasn’t made a live-action debut. For now, it’s just wishful thinking: Moura says Marvel hasn’t reached out.
X-Men reboot status
Marvel hasn’t announced any casting for its incoming mutant lineup. The studio is expected to fully lean into the X-Men after Avengers: Secret Wars, with an X-Men movie currently slated for July 28, 2028, set to be directed by Jake Schreier from a screenplay by Lee Sung Jin and Joanna Calo.
Meanwhile on Netflix
In the meantime, Moura is front and center in Netflix’s new sci‑fi thriller The Last House, which hit Netflix on August 7. Directed by Louis Leterrier, the movie follows a family suddenly trapped inside their home as the years tick by and reality warps into something unrecognizable.
- Wagner Moura — Jason Delgado
- Greta Lee — Ann Delgado
- Riley Chung — Delgado child
- Noah Alexander Sosnowski — Delgado child
- Emma Ho — Delgado child
- Gabriel Barbosa — Delgado child
The production leans into high-concept spectacle — including a massive, aquarium-like set used in later chapters — and required extensive underwater training for the cast.
The Last House is now streaming on Netflix.
