Tarantino Eyes Animated Prequels After Kill Bill Fortnite Drop
Quentin Tarantino hints at animated prequels and a Vega Brothers project after a lost Kill Bill chapter surfaces in Fortnite, sparking fresh interest in his unrealised stories.
After the long-lost Kill Bill segment, Yuki's Revenge, finally made its way to audiences through Fortnite, Quentin Tarantino has started chatting about the possibilities of animation for his shelved ideas. During a Q&A at the LA premiere of Yuki's Revenge, he mused about the creative freedom animation could offer.
I could see some world between [Unreal Engine] and Japanese anime that I could find some happy medium. Or, you know, between the things that I couldn’t physically do, like, say, the Vega Brothers movie, or something like that,
he said, taking a moment to reflect on what might be possible outside the usual live-action approach.
Unfinished Business: The Vega Brothers
The Vega Brothers was once on the cards as a prequel, bringing together John Travolta’s Vincent Vega from Pulp Fiction and Michael Madsen’s Vic Vega from Reservoir Dogs. The plan was to see the siblings cross paths in Amsterdam, but the project never got off the ground. Animation, Tarantino reckons, could be the ticket to finally bringing this story to life, sidestepping the challenges of casting and continuity that have held it back for years.
More Tales from the Kill Bill Universe
When asked if he’d revisit the world of Kill Bill, Tarantino admitted he’s still got a few ideas up his sleeve.
I have a whole Kill Bill idea in my mind but I was wiped out,
he shared. He’s especially keen on exploring Bill’s backstory, focusing on the trio who shaped him: Esteban Vihaio, Pai Mei, and Hattori Hanzo.
Will I live long enough to do that? That remains to be seen,
he added, not ruling anything out just yet.
Kill Bill’s Enduring Appeal
Kill Bill, led by Uma Thurman as the vengeful Bride, follows her pursuit of the Deadly Viper Assassination Squad and their boss, Bill, after a brutal betrayal. The cast features Lucy Liu, Daryl Hannah, Vivica A. Fox, Michael Madsen, and David Carradine, all playing their part in the saga’s bloody ballet.
Originally split into two films back in 2003 and 2004, both volumes are making a comeback in cinemas this month as a single, four-hour epic called The Whole Bloody Affair. Punters can catch Kill Bill: The Whole Bloody Affair on the big screen from 5 December.
Looking Ahead
For those keen to see what’s next, there’s plenty more on the horizon, with a stack of much-anticipated films set to hit screens in 2025 and beyond.
